Recipient of the Medal of Honor for conspicious gallantry as color bearer in the assault on Fort Gregg, a key Confederate bastion near St. Petersburg on April 2, 1865*. He was born January 30, 1845 in Pennsylvania and died on June 7, 1890 in Elgin and is buried in Bluff City Cemetery.
