| Description | Tuttle, Springfield native, recalls Springfield in the 20th century. She discusses growing up, schools, live theaters, neighborhoods, businesses, horse transportation, early automobiles, Armistice Day celebrations, prohibition, cemeteries, streetcars, high school, 1920's fashions, movies in the '20s, and the Depression. She also discusses WWII, volunteer work, rationing, and her husband and brothers in the service. Also discusses her family's Portuguese heritage and history. She discusses family life during the mid 20th century: children, work, husband's work in politics, caring for foster children, and religious values. She relates her fears, growing older, an investigation of nursing home conditions and Social Security. |
