MELON FEAST-The annual watermelon feast of the Maywood playgrounds, closing the season, will take place at all the play areas, Lincoln, Maywood Park, Waterworks and Tenth and Washington. Friday. Sampling the wares, and getting in a little practice, in the picture are, in front from the left: Mary Bronkema, Eugene Bronkema and Robert Thamm, and in back, Mary and Arthur Cavey. The winning team will be awarded a few more watermelons. Many features of the playgrounds' eight week session, including table tennis, free throw competition, loop tennis, checker tournament, pet and doll shows, and lantern parade were among the sources of points won by contestants. The feast will feature a picnic lunch to be topped off with watermelon. John S. Ludlam is in charge of the Maywood recreation system, with Miss Florence Rotermund as his first assistant. Members of the recreation board include Niels Larsen, president; John J. Wyand, secretary-treasurer; and Harold Hammond and George Trendel.
