RICHARD MILLER: Today is November 4, 1991. This is Richard Miller conducting an interview with Louis Velasco on behalf of the Mt. Prospect Oral History Project. I would like, on behalf of the library and the project, to thank Louis for allowing us to interview him and thank him for signing the releases and giving us the time to do this. Now I will proceed to ask some more questions . What do you remember most about shopping downtown?
LOUIS VELASCO: Well, of course, I worked downtown and the shopping downtown when I first came to work here was slow and easy to get along until about 1954, '55. Then it was practically impossible to find a place to park downtown on Fridays and Saturdays. It was a real project to find a place to shop. Otherwise it was just simple, easy shopping. Everything was located within walking distance. You didn't have to run around or move your car from one place to the other, because it was all in one spot. [tape interrupted]
