Huntley Redskins Win 18-8
By Jim Geary
The Huntley Redskins ran their way to their first victory of the season Friday night, Sept. 16, against the Hawks from Mt. CarrolL
The first quarter was a hard fought defense battle. The hitting was fierce and neither team could move the ball.
Early in the second quarter. Matt Robisky took a Mt. Carroll punt and, with the help of some good blocking, excited the fans with a 35-yard return. This seemed to ignite the Redskins offense and they moved the ball to the Mt. Carroll 4-yard line where, with 9:50 left in the second quarter, Ty Thompson took it in for the touchdown. The
extra point failed, but Huntley had their first lead of the season.
The score stayed 6-0 until 1:11 left in the third quarter when quarterback Bill Kline took the ball on a quarterback sneak fi-om the 1 yard line for a score. Jamie Rosenthal's extra point kick was blocked.
Huntley's offense controlled the ball for most of the fourth quarter. Matt Robisky ran the ball from the 34-yard line for a touchdown with 6:50 left in the game. The extra point was missed.
Randi Falls of Mt. Carroll got the Hawks on the board with 3:24 left, but it was sent enough as the Redskins won 18-8.
The entire Redskins defense played well. There were sacks, fumble recoveries and interceptions recraded by a host of Huntley players.
The offense was led by the great running of Ty Thompson. He led all backs with 130 yards. This does not include a 53-yard run which was called back. Curt Pippenger had 60 yards and Tim Kahl had 54. The entire offensive line of Neal Rodrian, Kevin Lessner, Ken Krol, Scou Strang, Matt Geary, Stuart Liegel and Bryan Hoist received offensive player of the game award for great blocking.
The next game is Friday, Sept. 23, at South Beloit.
