Helm Thurow Receives Lions Awards ^i^^^   Firefighters Complete Officer I Training ^
At the January 28 Lions meeting, Lion Heltn Thurow (left) received his award from Dick Kohley, Lions Secretary. He has been a member of the Huntley Lions for 40 years, with perfect attendance thru those 40 years. He was presented with an award for that great achievement. Now that's a True Lion!
Huntley fireHghters Keith Mallegni and Kevin Ellison completed their Fire Officer I training last November and were State Certified in January.
This is the first step into fire service management for these men. According to Ellison there are numerous branches of fire service to specialize in. He has chosen the field of hazardous materials to focus on. As a Level II Specialist, Ellison recently joined the Hazardous Materials Response Team for Lake County which provides service to McHenry County. Mallegni who is the Department Safety Officer, is considering arson investigation as his field of study.

On Tuesday, January 14, a dinner meeting was held with 65% membership present, and 1 guest. Another great meal was served, after which. Secretary Kohley read the minutes of the last meeting. After a little hemming and hawing they (the minutes) were approved. Reports were then given on all Christmas parties, etc. for Pioneer Center, Huntley Lions, Valley Hi, Grade School, and the Needy. Everyone involved was pleased with the enthusiasm, the help, and mainly with the Holiday Spirit. Job well done everyone! Lion Ed Hartman then spoke on all organizations possibly putting on an Appreciation Breakfast in February, more details coming next meeting. Lion Del Borchart said everything is set for District 1-J Bowling Tournament coming up Sunday

business. President Swanson then brought forth important dates coming up, which will be listed at the end of report. No further business, meeting adjourned.

On Sunday, January 19, four five-man teams left from Huntley to Addison, II. to bowl in the District 1-J Tournament. Two men's teams, one women's team, and one mixed team had a fine time. Secretary Kohley read the minutes of last meeting, had a little trouble with his speech, but finally finished with a quick motion to approve and second, motion carried. Lion Pass then reported Sight and Sound Sweepstake tickets had been handed out, and to anyone wishing more books to sell, he would have them soon. Lion Norm reported that the March 14th Steak Fry is on the burner; planning is being done, and tickets are being handed out to the members. Lion Ellison reported that a committee has been set up for a Hospitality Room at the District 1-J Convention in April. All members are urged to participate. Lions and

Forty-four members of the Huntley Senior Citizens answered roll call at the regular January meeting. After a pot luck dinner the meeting was called to order by President Ahrens.
John Winkelman and Russ Wilson, Huntley's two newest paramedics, and Nancy Fike of the McHenry County Museum were introduced. Nancy presented an interesting slide presentation on moving and restoring the West Harmony school from Riley to Union.
Lyle Koppen, John Kolby and Tom and Nancy Schneider, our four new members, were acknowledged.
The minutes of the November meeting were read and approved on a motion by Vem Heine, 2nd by Elma Fell.
The treasurer's report of $348.19 was approved on a motion by Ed Piske, 2nd. by Emerson Fell.

Diedrick.
Activity director, Alice Jordi, reported that we visited the Harvard Retirement and Valley Hi homes during December. Sixty-four seniors enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner at Billson on December 12th. The raffle netted us a profit of $283.00. The trip to the Fireside in January was a real treat for the forty-five that attended. The motorcoach for the ice capades on March 27th is filled to capacity. She asked if there would be enough interest for the Easter Celebration at Rockford and there was, so arrangements will
be made.
Accompanied at the piano by May Chesak, Happy Birthday was sung to Alice Jordi, after which May presented her with an activity director's pin.
An invitation to breakfast and the Abe Lincoln play on Feb. 5, at 8:00am, was extended to us by the Huntley Grade School. Breakfast is
