Express Convenient, Sierra Petroleum Raise Funds For Student Ambassabor Kristen Wichman
Express Convenient Store and ' Sierra Petroleum, a Unocal 76 supplier, joined forces to raise funds for Huntley High Junior Kristen Wichman who was chosen as a Student Ambassador with the People to People Program. She will travel to Russia June 30 through July 26 with a group of Student Ambassadors chosen from around the midwest.
For every gallon of unleaded plus or super gas sold from April 24 through May 10th at the Unocal 76 gas station on Rt. 47 in Huntley, the two companies donated $.02 to Wichman. Their donation of $250 from each company constitutes the largest donation so far.
Although, People To People is a federally sponsored program founded by President D wight D. Eisenhower, no government funds are allocated to cover travel expenses. Wichman has been trying to raise funds since March. She needs $4,000 to pay for the trip. Those interested in helping Wichman with finances can call her or her parents, Roger and Kathy Wichman, at 708/669-3268.
Express Convenient Store owner George Romero (right) and Sierra Petroleum General Manager Mike Havenga present two checks totaling $500, to Kristen Wichman who will travel to Russia as a Student Ambassador this summer. Wichman's father, Roger, looks on.
