The Huntley Redskins varsity football team traveled to South Beloit to take on the Sobo's last Friday night. The weather was threatening all night but that didn't stop the Redskins from mnning to their second victwy of the season, 16-6.
The Redskins took the lead at 7:54 of the second quarter on a 3-yard run by Ty Thompson. He also ran in the 2-point conversion.
The Huntley defense started off where they left the week before. The Sobo's offense did not mount a serious threat all night. The only South Beloit scwe came ai a 75-yard interception return in the second quarter. The extra point failed. On that interception, Huntley's

Village Board Debates Downtown Parking

Huntley village board members voted against approving bids for the construction of a new parking lot in downtown Huntley last Thursday night.
The project, an 18-space parking lot west of the village hall building on Coral Street, was first introduced to the board in June of this year.
Trustees are now debating if the parking area is needed. Some board members argued that the transfer of village personnel to the new annex building (located just east of town on Main Street) in October will free up several parking spots during business hours. Another suggestion made by trustee John Sheehan was to make Coral Street a one-way, and create vertical parking slots which face the park in place of the horizontal parking which currenUy exists.
Comments from businesses in the downtown area varied.
Herb Glissendorf, represendng the American Legion, said that the legion does not have a problem with their usual customers flnding parking, however, during special events people end up parking all over town to attend.
Cathy DeQuaker, executive director of HunUey's Chamber of Commerce, commented, "Definitely a problem." DeQuaker said that lack of parking in the downtown area may have been part of the reason why Huntley Homestead Day did not go over as well as it did in die Huntley Center. "People just kept driving by because there was no place to park."
Dr. Rod Bastidas, Huntley Medical Center, said he hears complaints from patients in the late afternoon. "The morning is ok, it's late in the afternoon, 4 or 5pm when patients have trouble finding parking."
Huntley Seniors Celebrate Harting's 103 Years
Eleven Huntley seniors traveled to Valley Hi Nursing Home on September 7 to help Minnie Harting celebrate her 103rd birthday. Since our last birthday visit we discovered Minnie doesn't like cake so Mona did the honors of baking a sheet of apple slices, which she throughly enjoyed. Helping Minnie celebrate her 103rd birthday are: Al Jordi, Sally Seisser, Evelyn Benning, Minnie, Millie Harting, Tom Schneider, Katie Ewert, Vern and Arlene Heine, Lorraine Saur, and Veronica Emmerich. Alice Jordi was the official photographer.
Huntley School Changes Start Times Monday
The starting and ending times for Huntley grade school students in preschool through grade 5 will change effective October 3, 1994. The starting time will be adjusted from 8:10am to 8:30am. The ending time will be adjusted from 3:01pm to 3:15pm. Preschool and kinder¬ garten will be in session from 8:30am until 11:15am and 12:30pm until 3:15pm.
Parent cooperation is appreciated. Doors will be unlocked for preschool through grade 5 students to enter the building and
supervision provided at 8:20am. Parents whose children do not ride a bus are asked to arrange the arrival of their children at school between 8:20am and 8:25am.
Bus routes will be adjusted 15 minutes later than the current schedule for preschool through grade 5 in the morning and preschool and kindergarten routes at midday. Preschool through grade 5 students will be arriving home approximately 5 to 10 minutes later at the end of the day. Parents are
asked to keep the parking lot and drive area in front of the grade school open for the movement of students and buses.
The new staggered school day was implemented this school year knowing that some adjustments would be required. It is expected to reduce cost for the school district and provide buffer space on most buses to absorb enrollment growth. No further changes are anticipated this school year, except minor adjustments as changes in the student population occur.
Huntley To Hold Voter Registration Day This Saturday
Tuesday, Nov. 8, is General Election Day. The governor's race, as well as many state and county offices, and local issues will be on die ballot You must be a registered voter to cast your vote in this
election.
There will be a Voter Registration Day in HunUey on Saturday, Oct. 1,9-1 lam, at the HunUey Supermarket. You can also register at the HunUey Library by calling
708/669-5386 before you come. You must be 18-years-old and a resident of McHenry County; and two forms of identification are required.
