Planning Commission Discusses Variances, Comprehensive Plan-
The regular meeting of the Planning Commission was called to order at 7:05pm on June 13.
Present: Chairman Rohlwing, Commissioners Daum, Brown, Domagalski, Schachtner and Hahn. Also present were Mayor Dhamer and Administrator Nelis.
Minutes of Mav 9. 1994
Motion by Domagalski, 2nd Brown, to approve the minutes. Vote: ayes, all. Motion carried.
1st National Bank of Marengo - Preliminary Plat of Subdivision: The bank representative stated that engineering drawings have been submitted, along with the architectural site plan. Comments have been received from Baxter/Woodman; the main issues highlighted were: (1) the location of the retention area should not be in the 75-foot wetland set-back; (2)

Bakley Brings Travel Business "Home To Huntley"

When Bernice Bakley opened Huntley Travel in Huntley Center on Rt. 47, it was very special and sentimental to her. "My dad always said when I would go into business, he'd build me an office in Huntley," says Bakley. And he did.
Although her father, Timer Bakley, died in 1986, he built the building, housing Huntle'y Travel currently, in 1974. It was originally the Huntley Supenparket, which now has moved into a larger building added on to the complex.
Huntley Travel is a full service travel agency and a branch ofiice of Woodstock Travel, owned and operated by Bernice Bakley of Woodstock and Roger Copel of Algonquin. The two bought out Easy Travel in Woodstock on June 11, 1990 and reopened as Woodstock Travel.
Bakley, originally from Huntley, sayS, "We always talked about opening an office in Huntley, it was a matter of when we were ready and when the community was ready." So four years later to the day, on June 11, 1994 they opened Huntley Travel.
"The location couldn't be better... We've had a great first week, more clients than I expected," continues Bakley. She says it was a good opportunity to get their location. The Bakley family owns the building and had been trying to lease it to a single business. So it was decided to subdivide the building and lease to four smaller businesses; Huntley Travel, Huntley Floral, Country Copy and Huntley Area Chamber of Conunerce and
Industry. The four businesses plan a combined open house on July 18-16.

turn-over rate in four years in business. Christine Wallis of Woodstock is working as full-time manager of the branch office. Between Wallis and Bakley they have 24 years of travel experience. Karen Blanko of Hampshire is working with them sts an intern from the Elgin Community College travel program.
Bakley who is a graduate of Southeastern Academy in Florida, feels her Huntley and Woodstock staffs have a lot to offer the corporate traveler in services and experience. They provide fax service, corporate profiles, same-day delivery, and "frequent flier" program assistance. Bakley says,"The fax has become a very important tool in this business. We have a list of clientele that we fax a list of last minute (travel) specials... If they're interested in (a particular special), they call us." In addition, between all of her agents, they've traveled much of the world; Europe, Africa, Central America, Australia, as well as all over the U.S. to provide first hand knowledge.

offices. She was apprehensive
to be nominated for the
position at first. She says
now, "It's been wonderful
being involved with the
Huntley Chamber... I should
fmd the person that '
nominated me and thank them."
"With the expected growth coming to Huntley, we anticipate a good business here," continues Bakley, "I feel like I've come home, opening in Huntley... so many people stop by just to say hello or good luck." Her a^ection for Huntley is reflected in her goals for Huntley Travel; to build a clientele in Huntley, really help support the community, and be a stable business in the town. Bakley comments, "The sense of loyalty my family has to the community has helped me and I want to continue that conunitment with my business."
