"Night At The Opera" Fashion Show A Success-
Huntley High School students (1 to r) Jacki Greve, Amy Jones, Gary Keesling and Caleb Kittel were among the models at the annual Music Boosters Fashion Show. The show "A Night At The Opera" was held Monday, March 14, at 7:30pm in the high school multipurpose room. Sportswear and formal fashions provided by Amy's of Dundee and Lenharts of Woodstock were modeled by Huntley music students and members of the Music Boosters. Flowers to compliment the formal fashions were provided by Huntley Floral. A silent auction was also held, and door prizes for adults and children were awarded. Baked goods and punch were provided by the Booster Club. All proceeds will be used for music camp scholar¬ ships. The boosters were delighted with the turn-out and th^nk everyone for their support!
IVICC Sponsors Family Fun Fair
Keeping good kids good is the goal. Finding fun things to do and building character are only two methods experts suggest. Find other ways you can help your kids stay away from drugs at the Family Fun Fair & Showcase on Sunday, March 20, l-4pm, at McHenry County College. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Dr. Geshundheit will serve as master of ceremonies for the "Taste of Prevention." Other side shows include a puppet show from "Murphy's Paw," the Wheel of Wisdom game show, magician Tom Boz, a
special showing at 1:15pm of "Two Pails of Water" in the MCC Black Box Theater, and Starlab, an exciting, inter¬ active portable planetarium system operated by Harper College. The Jesse White Tumbling Team will be the grand finale performers. The presenters use their special talents to focus on building self-esteem, making healthy choices, setting goals, gaining patience, persistence and empowerment.
The showcase will also be a network of schools, community
groups, recreation providers, hospitals, law enforcement, service providers and other commmunity-based programs. They will be on-hand to share information on their substance-abuse prevention and other programs.
The day is sponsored by McHenry County College, Family Services of McHenry County, In Touch, and the Regional Super¬ intendent's Office with funds provided by the Fund for the Improvement of Post Secondary Education and MCC.
Wesemann Takes 3rd In FFA Contest
On March 2, Leslee Wesemann, an active FFA member, took third place in the Section 6 Speaking Contest. She prepared a seven-minute memorized speech to present before three judges. Some qualities she was judged on were content of the manuscript, composition of the manuscript, voice, stage presence, power of expression, general effect and response to questions. Other schools Leslee competed against were Marengo, Sycamore, DeKalb, Belvidere and Hampshire.
Huntley Voters Reject School Referendum
On Tuesday, March 15, voters in Huntley Consolidated School District 158 chose to reject the referendum for a $14.2 million new junior/senior high school building on Harmony Road. In unofficial results the votes reported to The Huntley Farmside by the McHenry County Court House were 679 against and 438 in favor of the referendum.
Huntley School Board President Jim Heavey expressed thanks to those who supported the plan and who had worked to get the information to the public.
Now the board will face some tough decisions at their meeting scheduled for tonight, March 17, at 7:30pm in the central office. Alternative options to be considered include split shifts, eliminating preschool and kindergarten and extending
classrooms off-campus to sites such as churches.
Another referendum for the November ballot will also be considered by the board in the future. The delay in passing a referendum will mean no new facilities until at least the 1996-97 school year, should the referendum be approved in    . November,
The announced winners of other contested races on the Republician ballot include: Jim Edgar for governor, Jim Ryan for attorney general and Bill Mullen for McHenry County sheriff.
The Democratic winners of contested races are: Dawn Clark Netsch for governor. Penny Severns for lieutenant governor, Al Hofeld for attorney general, Pat Quinn for secretary of state, Mary Lou Kearns for comptroller and Nancy Drew Sheehan for treasurer.
