"Keep The Wreath Red"
Huntley Village Board Declares "Lady Redskins Day"

For the 14tii year in a row, the Huntley Fire Protection District is asking the residents of Huntiey for special effort to "Keep the Wreath Red" this holiday season. This is part of a state wide campaign to alert residents concerning fires caused by holiday decorations.
A large wreath is displayed on the front window of Huntley Fire Station location at 11808 Coral Su^eet. The wreath starts with its bright red lights constantiy lit. If there is a fire in the district caused directly by holiday decorations, a red bulb on the wreath is replaced with a white one.
Huntley has kept the wreath red every year since HFPD began the program 14 years ago. Huntley firefighters request all residents to please continue to be fire-safely minded again Uiis year.
The following are a few tips for a safe holiday season.
May sure Christmas trees are fresh and kept away from any type of heat.
Check often for water in the tree stand to reduce ti^ee from drying.
Make sure all lights are UL tested and check all lights and cords to insure they are in good condition.
Never use inside lights for outside use, since they are not made to withstand tiie weather.
Keep children away and pets away from electrical cords around the Christmas tree and other lighted decorations.
Use power strips instead of multi-plug adapters to avoid overloaded electrical circuits.
All dwellings should have working smoke detectors. Check them for you and your family's safety. ~
Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers make excellent gifts that say you care.

In a unanimous vote Thursday night, Huntiey Village Board of Trustees declared Friday, Nov. 22, to be "Lady Redskins Day" in Huntiey. A plaque was awarded to the Lady Redskins volleyball team in recognition of their third place win in state competition. Acting for ab.sent Mayor Dhamer, Trustee Charlie Becker presented the plaque which read "In recognition of the Dedication Outstanding Performance and Third Place Finish in the IHSA State Volleyball Finals, the Village President and Board of Trustees hereby declare Friday, Nov. 22, 1996 as Lady Redskin Day."
Present to receive the plaque were players Lisa Aschenbrenner, Jackie Dalleska, Megan Borhart, Angela DeBartolo, Katie Holtz, Sandie Origer and Sarah Raffin. Beaming from the audience were assistant coaches Connie Marsh, Wendy Chauncey and Karen Traub.
Kiwanis Club "Coats For Kids"

On behalf of the Kiwanis Club of Huntley, 1 would like to thank everyone who donated coats to the "Coats For Kids".
Thanks to your generosity, over 150 coats for both children and adults were received, as well as gloves and hats.
The coats are now at the Grafton Township office for those in need of a coat. Grafton Township office hours are Sam - 4pm, Monday through Friday.
All of you who donated coats have assured that someone will have a much warmer winter.
Junior Girl Scout Troop Offers Babysitting
The Huntley Junior Girl Scout Troop is offering babysitting on Saturday, Dec. 7, 9:30am until 3:30pm in the TLC Preschool classrooms at Trinity Lutheran Church located on Church St., Huntiey. The sixth grade age girls will babysit children 18-months old and up for a reasonable hourly fee.
Games, toys and movies will be provided. Parents should bring diapers if needed and provide their child with a sack lunch. Reservations are recommended, but not required, by calling Caroline Bien 815-923-1214.
