"This oak" she said, "grew from an acorn I brought home from Canada in my pocket, oh, years ago." And, this shrub grew from a stick I put in to hold up a plant." She's put 35 years, and countless hours, into the prize-winning yard. "It's so much fun," she says, "I Shirley Wiesneth of 12113 W. Fire Department Changes To 24/48 In order to provide faster and safer response to its rapidly growinging district, the Huntley Fire Department recently implemented a 24 on/48 off personnel schedule. Using this new scheduling change, the Department is able to provide in station coverage to the entire district 24 hours per day - 365 days per year. No additions to staff were required to implement this change and only minor facility improvements were required. On the 24/48 schedule, firefighters are on duty for 24 consecutive hours then off-duty for 48 consecutive hours. Two 24- hour shifts are staffed with 2 Career personnel and 1 paid-on-call firefighter, the third 24-hour shift is staffed with 3 career personnel. Paid on call personnel continue to respond to calls as before per the departments operating guidelines. The Huntley Fire Department currently serves a population of approximately 15,000. The District encompases 55 square miles. It serves all of Huntley, a large portion of Lake-in-the-Hills, some of Algonquin, 10 miles of the Tollway, plus areas of rural Kane and McHenry Counties. ITie Department has experienced a 10% increase in calls in the last year due to the r^id expansion of the population in the District. The change in schedule was implemented to provide better service to the entire district. Sites for additional stations have already been identified and are in the planning stages under the direction of the Board of Trustees.
