By Kevin Daleidan The Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 3, at the First Congregational Church. The attendance was lighter than usual, due to the July 4 holiday. The focus of the meeting was the chamber's executive committee report on the status of the chamber. Based upon a review of office procedures, chamber membership was assured that all monies were accounted for; in fact, the committee reports that an increase in the projected income for the remainder of 1996 will be seen as compared to reports given by former executive director Beard. Due in part to the attempt by the board of directors to place the chamber on a firm financial standing, the membership is being "pro-rated" on billing this year. "This will permit the board lo see annualized dues allotted to ihe appropriate funding year," announced Kevin Daleiden, president of the chamber. "Contrary lo other under¬ capitalized operations, we will not be spending 1997's income in 1996. Plus, thanks lo our treasurer's efforts, we will have shifted the burden of costs lo the appropriate spending year." The treasurer's report indicated that a cash-on-hand balance at the end of the year would be in the $10,00r range: The board feels confident that wilh this amount as a base, they can go forward with both planned programs and analysis of new offerings. While the prior board understood that from its very inception, the chamber's under-capitalized position was causing this "robbing Peter to pay Paul" as Treasurer John Frieburg calls il. It was not until the departure of executive director Cathy DeQuaker that the executive commitlee realized the extent of the chamber's position. "We got involved in 'hands-on' management while searching for a replacement, and once we did that wc knew we had to develop a plan to resolve the situation," Daleiden Continued on page 9 Village Board Agenda... o'JlB'e ^.re will be a regular meeting o'fllae board of trustees of the Village of Huntley on Thursday, July 11, at 7pm at the village annex building at 11221 Dundee Rd., Huntley.
