District 158 Registration
Huntley School District 158 will hold school registration for grades K-12 on Monday, August 12 and Tuesday, August 13. Registration will be held from 8am to 3pm on both days, in the high school cafeteria. Almost 300 students have aheady registered using the new mail-in process. Registration materials will also be available at all three school offices after August 13th. Parents with questions regarding registration should call 669-5248.
Weber Grill Manufacturer to Build New Facility in Huntley
Governor Jim Edgar announced last week that Palatine-based Weber-Stephen Products Company will invest up to $14 million to build a 300,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facihty for its barbecue grills, creating 225 jobs and significandy expanding the company's presence in Illinois.
Lt. Gov. Bob Kustra, the Governor's senior advisor for economic development, unveiled the project at ceremonies in Huntley. "We weekend barbecue experts look for the best grills for our backyards. When Weber looked around for the best place to expand, Weber found it right in its own backyard. Today's announcement is a tribute to the strength and productivity of the Illinois workforce," Kustra said.
Weber-Stephen President, Jim Stephen, thanked the Village of Huntley and Mayor Jim Dhamer for their hard work and perseverance through the 2-year planning phase of the project. Huntley Sweeps in Hog Barns at McHenry County Fair
Huntley 4-H'ers took several top prizes in the 4-H hog judging at the McHenry County Fair.
Tim Hoeft, a member of the HunUey Harvestors, won Reserve Champion Barrow and Reserve Champion Pair of Market Hogs as well as a blue in single market gilt. His Reserve Champion Barrow was purchased at the "Sale
y' Champions" by First National nk of Marengo Huntley Banking Center and donated to 4-H Youth Foundation. Tim also received the Merle E. Hoeft 4-H Woodworking Memorial Master Woodworking Trophy. In 4-H competition, he earned a blue/merit/pIaque/State Fair for Newswriting, blue for clothing I, blue for tractor/operation, and blue/merit for building bigger things. Tim is a junior at Marian Central Catholic High School.
Matt Fruin, a member of the Huntley Pioneers 4-H Club and Huntley FFA, won Grand Champion Market Hog,
Champion Market Gilt and Reserve Champion Gilt in the 4-H judging. In Jr. Class he won Grand Champion Market Hog, Champion Market Gilt and Reserve Champion Gilt. In Open Class he took Grand Champion Market, Reserve Grand Champion Pair and Grand Champion Gilt. The 4-H/FFA livestock was purchased by Alliance Contractors/Chuck Ruth and donated to Pioneer Center for the Pig Roast. Matt is a Huntley High School graduate and will be attending Platteville in the Fall.
