Fireworks Present Dangers

Fourth of July is an annual event for Americans that are celebrating the birth of their country. Picnics and fireworks have always been part of that tradition.
Fireworks alone can kill, maim and bum victims without warning. In Illinois alone, over 1,000 fires were attributed to fireworks. Thirty-two firefighters injured and five deaths related to fireworks. Property damage totaled over 7 million dollars.
The State Fire Marshal's office reported 300 injuries in Illinois and many of these injuries were children under 15 years of age. Injuries to the hands and fingers were the most common, accounting for 36%. Injuries to the eyes and ears can result in blindness and permanent loss of hearing.
In Illinois, all fireworks are illegal except sparklers, smoke devices, snakes and glow worm pellets, trick noisemakers and most forms of toy pistols or paper caps. However, legality does not necessarily indicate safety. Misuse or the use of these devices by children without adult supervision can create a dangerous situation. Sparklers, for example, reach temperatures of 3,000 degrees F. and remain hot enough to cause serious bums even after they are extinguished. Burns can be very painful and require a long time to heal.
In May each year, the Huntley Firefighters conduct a "Fill the Boot" campaign for youthful victims of fire and burns. Fireworks are the cause of some painful and disfiguring injuries of these kids in "Bum Camp".

This year the Village of Huntley will sponsor a 4th of July fireworks show. It will be on Saturday evening, July 5th. The location will be in the area behind the Huntley High School and west of Deicke Park. Enjoy fireworks the safe way, displayed by licensed professionals.

The Village of Huntley will sponsor the first Fireworks Show to be held in Huntley in over 20 years.
"Remember When . . "the spectacular fireworks display put on by "Timer" Bakley and his family was a part of traditional Huntley 4th of July celebration?
More recently, Huntleyites have had to travel to surrounding towns, like Woodstock or Crystal Lake, to "see the lights and hear the sounds".
This year, you can stay right here at home. The Fireworks will be set off in the open area behind the Huntley High School,.at approximately 9:30 pm, on Saturday, July 5. In case of rain on Saturday, the Fireworks Display will take place on Sunday, July 6.
Motorized vehicles will not be allowed in Deicke Park during the Fireworks. The Park District asks that you park at the schools and walk in if you want to see the Fireworks from the Park. Park gates will close at 7 pm. Any cars still in the park at that time will be asked to leave so that the gates can be locked.
