SERVING THE PEOPLE OF HUNTLEY SINCE 1960 m^tM UPS 580-360 THURSDAY May 8,1997 - VOLUME 37, NUMBER 5 - HUNTLEY, ILLINOIS TWENTY-FIIVE CENTS Two Arrested for Setting School Fire Trinty Lutheran Church Confirmation Class On Thursday, May I, a seven month investigation into an Arson at Huntley High School came to a conclusion when Police Officers from Huntley, McHenry County Sheriffs Police, McHenry County States Attorney's Office and Algonquin Police Department arrested Keith Guminslci, age 22 of 433 S. Hubbard Rd., Algonquin and John P. Daley, age 25 of 1745 Kingston Cr., Carpentersville. Both defendants are charged with Criminal Damage to Government Supported Property (over $100,000.00), Arson, and Possession of an Incendiary Device. Guminski and Daley were also charged with two Auto Thefts that occurred during the spring of 1996 in Algonquin and un¬ incorporated McHenry County. The fire at Huntley High School, 12015 Mill St., Huntley occurred on October 1,1996 when an incendiary device was thrown through a classroom window. The damage was contained to two classrooms by the Huntley Fire Department, however damage was estimated at $150,000.00. Huntley Police and Fire Departments have had an ongoing investigation underway since the occurrence. The major break in the case came earlier this week when a confidential source revealed information that tied Guminski to the Huntley fire and the two auto thefts. Sealed Grand Jury Indictments were returned May 1, 1997 on Guminski and warrants were issued setting bond at $300,000.00. Officers from Algonquin Police Department took Guminski into custody Thursday evening, May 1, 1997. Subsequent to the arrest, information linking Daley to the crimes resulted in complaints and warrants being issued with bond set at $490,000.00 Initial court dates on both subjects have been set for May 8 al 9 am in McHenry County. By Margie Hughes The Allen's of the Huntley Supermarket recently were notified that a computer pick of stores that had made qualifying purchases at the Eby Brown Company food shows in Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana for a 1997 Chevy Blazer had selected them for the grand prize. Cambridge Opens Homes In Huntley Preconstruction sales are underway in Southwind, a new Cambridge Homes community currently planned for 224 single- family homes in Huntley. Southwind, which is Cambridge's first new home community to open in McHenry County, includes nine all new two-story, single-family home designs in two series. The homes range from 1,456 to 2,781 square feet of living space and include three to five bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, and two-car attached garages. Each home is available with a basement designed to be finished into an additional level of living space with nine-foot-high foundation walls. The homes in Southwind are currently priced from $143,990 to $189,990. "Southwind promises to be a large success not only because of the two series of brand new single- Continued on Page 11 Firemen Will Fill the Boot For Burn Camp Firefighters in Huntley will be out on the streets collecting funds to "Fill the Boot" for Bum Camp on May 9 and 10. Proceeds of the boot drive will help send young burn survivors to camp this summer. The Illinois Fire Safety Alliance will hold its annual Bum Camp June 22-28, at YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside. Bum camp invites young bum survivors to share their experiences while being able to play and not feel self conscious about how others may react to their scars. Anyone knowing of a burn survivor who whould benefit from Burn Camp or would like further information should contact the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, at P.O. Seniors at least 55 years old, are invited to join other senior citizens for coffee and pastries, and bingo! Winners will receive prizes that have been donated by the mall and the mall merchants. Also, seniors will have the opportunity to become a Senior Gold Club member. Membership entitles the seniors to a discount at participating stores on the Second Tuesday of each month - Senior Glold Club day. Participation is FREE and NO reservations are required.
