Construction begins on Huntley's newest water tower at the Har¬ mony Road Public Works^site.
Water tower construction has begun
Construction began this week on the new water tower, located at the West Main Street Public Works Depart¬ ment. The tower will be approximately 90 to 100 feet high and is expected to hold about 500,000 gallons.
According to Village Pres¬ ident James Dhamer, Del Webb/Prime Group Inc. will Ije funding the construction.
"This is growth paying for growth in Huntley," said Dhamer. "The village is not paying for this."
The Village of Huntley acquired the 22-acre sire through annexation from Prime Group. Also located on this site is Huntley's newest water treatment plant, a new well house and softening building.
District 158 may condemn property for new campus
Unless a property owner agrees to sell land for a new school campus by July 15, he could face condemnation.
The District 158 School Board voted unanimously to begin condemnation of the property if the owner rejects the final offer.
School officials have negoti¬ ated for months with the owner of a 140-acre parcel at the cor¬ ner of Hunfley-Dundee and Gal¬ ligan roads in Rudand Town¬ ship. Officials insist the land may  someday be needed to
March will honor Tegel
TLC Preschool and Kinder¬ garten is sponsoring a "Mini- March" to l)enefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The march will he held during the Huntley Town Picnic, at 11 a.m. this Sunday, June 27, around the pond at Deicke Park.
The event is in honor of Erik Tegel, a student at TLC, who has cystic fibrosis. The genetic disease causes the txjdy to pro¬ duce a thick, sticky mucus which leads to ctffonic and fatal lung infections and impairs digestion. Currently, there is no cure.

The lx)ard decided to proceed with condemnation only if the owner refuses to accept a final $1.54 million offer.
Skyrocketing enrollment has forced the district to build two new schools and to make long- range plans for a third campus. New elementary schools are now under construction: one at the 15 6-acre Hannony Road campus in Huntley and a second at the 240-acre Reed Road site in Lake in the Hills.
In April, voters approved two referendums totalling $18 mil¬ lion to pay for the new schools.
The district can condemn the land under its power of eminent domain, a right rarely if ever used by District 158. The land was appraised at $11,000 per acre, the amount the district is willing to pay.
This year's enrollment stands at about 2,500 students and offi¬ cials expect enrollment to reach 3,000 by the 2000-2001 school year.
