Huntley Woman Wins Baking Contest
Janet Becker of Huntley loves cheesecakes. So when she learned about the Heath Bits Holiday shopping spree contest, she reasoned that her entry would be a cheese¬ cake. "I just made a cheese¬ cake for my Mom's birthday and even my 11 month old son, Michael, is already a cheese¬ cake lover" she mentioned.
Janet was a second prize winner in the contest which was open to Midwestern bakers. The recipe used Heath's Bits 'O Brickie chips in a creamy delicious combination that had the judges smiling.
Heath Bits 'O Brickie Cheesecake
Crust: 1 1/2 C. crushed shortbread cookies
2 tbsp. brown sugar 6 tbsp. melted butter Filling: 3-8oz. pkgs. cream cheese (room temperature) 3/4 C. sugar
3 large eggs 2 tbsp. flour
1/2 C. whipping cream
1 tsp. vanilla
I C. Heath Bits 'O Brickie
chips
For Filling: Beat cream
cheese and sugar. Add flour,
eggs, cream and vanilla. Stir
in chips. Turn into prepared
crust and bake at 350 for 45
minutes. Prop oven door open
and cool to room temperature.
Lions Convention
Nine Huntley Lions and seven Lioness enjoyed the Lions District Convention this past weekend. It was held at the Hyatt Regency in Lisle. The group added to their knowledge about Lionism and its activities through meetings, seminars and the camaraderie of the group. Hospitality rooms, swimming, card games and lots of visiting rounded out the activities of the weekend.
Lions from Huntley will be attending both the State Convention in St. Charles in May and the International Convention in July in St. Louis.

Farmside's 30th Anniversary
Thirty years ago, April 1960, soon-to-be-wed Quinn (Scoop) O'Brien and Suzanne LeGrand, brought the first issue of The Huntley Farmside rolling off the presses. Through ups and downs they worked to establish The Farmside as Huntley's own hometown newspaper. In 1960 the 8-page paper cost 7 cents and a one year subscription was $2.50. With 30 years of rising costs a 1990 Farmside costs only $.25 or $8.00 for a yearly subscription.
With the births of 3 sons, Quinn, Scott and Jim, The Farmside grew into a family enterprise. Over the years each family member contributed to building the Farmside.
In the 1970's Scoop kept the paper alive with his new wife. Marge, and their 3 children, Heather, Shawn and Beth. Through family highs and lows the Farmside continued to make its weekly appearance. During Scoop's illness and extended hospitalization Katie and the staff kept the Farmside coming out on schedule.
After the death of Scoop O'Brien in 1986 there was no question of closing down or selling out the newspaper. Suzanne returned to take over running the paper herself.  Though living in California with her new husband, Robert Brown, she is still sole owner. Through her current staff, Suzanne is still trying to give Huntley the same hometown-style, family oriented, good-news newspaper.
The Farmside personnel, from top to bottom, appreciate everyone's help and support in this aim. The town and paper continues to grow. We hope for another 30 years with all our friends in Huntley.
Ms. McHenry County Pageant
Linda Borchart, Miss McHenry County Pageant chair¬ man, announced the 1990 Miss McHenry County winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship given by the McHenry County Fair Association.
The scholarship is to help the winner continue post-high school education at a university or college or in an approved advance training program.

conducted as the opening night feature of the McHenry County Fair on Wednesday, August 1, Borchart said. The Fair Association appreciates the participation of all the communities throughout McHenry County for this event. It has been sponsored since 1949 by the Fair Association.
Last year 14 contestants representing cities and villages joined in the compe¬ tition.

The public is invited to the Pinsky Sunday Baseball Card Supershow, with approxi¬ mately 60 excellent exhibitors, on Sunday, April 8, 1990, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Holiday Inn, Rt. 31 and Three Oaks Rd., Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Park District Easter Events
Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 14, the Easter Bunny makes his annual appearance in Deicke Park. Two times are offered: 11:00 for pre-schoolers and 2:00 for grades K-4. The various age groups will hunt in different areas of the park for their eggs. There's a prize in every egg and special prizes for each age division. There is no fee or pre-registration. "Egg Hiders" are welcome. Call the park, 660-3180, for more information. Easter Bonnet Decorating Contest Decorate an Easter Bonnet at home and bring it to the Deicke Recreation Center on
April 14 at 12:30. You can either decorate one that you already have or make one of your own. Prizes will be awarded in several different categories. All ages are invited, pre-school through adults. There is no'fee or registration required.

The Easter Bunny
On Saturday, April 14, you can enjoy a continental breakfast with mom or dad and the Easter Bunny at Deicke Recreation Center at 9:00. There is a favor for each child, then a craft project and the "Velveteen Rabbit". Fee: $3.00 each. Pre-register by April 7 is a must!
