ILL PAGES m 8BIV1WG THE PEOPLE OF HUMtUgWWCE 190 ISc PEK COPY HUNTLEY BOY SCOUTS TAKE 1st PLACE OPEN HOUSE FOR SUNDAY 'if'^t Ust Saturday, the Huntley Boy Scouts attended the annual Galena Scout Parade. The Boy Scouts arrived by Huntley Park District bus driven by Jack Brunschon. After several hours of sight seeing the parade began. It all started with a police car with flashing red lights followed by the Marine Honor Guard. General Grant and his staff waved to the crowds lined down the streets of Galena. Next came the Galena High School Band with Guest of Hon-^r Justin Kneeland. Scouts from Illinois, Wisconsin a. d Iowa competed for honors. The theme of this parade was a salute to the armed forces. May of the scouts wore various service uniforms or carried recniiting posters. Several bands lead off each section of scouts. They were Hanover High School Band & Color Guard; The West Dubuque High School Band & Color Guard; The East Dubuque Drum & Bugle Corps and a Civil War Band of drums and flutes. Air Force jets caused quite a stir as they flew at low heighs causing several large sonic booms. National Guard, Navy officials. Civil Air Patrol and other service joined in the festivities. Clowns and Indian dancers joined the parade. The Hnntkiy Boy SconU nurched in precision witli their sharp looldiig purple veaU and neckerchiefs. Unlike years before an array of colorful vests & neckerchiefs were visible. Scouts from Jacksonville took 1st place in cadence while Hontiey tooli 1st place for the Best Dressed. The Boy Scouts had been practicing for weeks at their Monday night meetings under the direction of Scoutleader Gary DeDina and this year proved to be their best year. A couple of years ago, the Huntley Troop took third place for the best dressed unit. His comments came during discussion on the finance corn- Continued on Inside Page Douglas Will of Huntley Troop 167 will be presented with the Eagle Scout certificate in a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. May 6 in Trinity Lutheran Church Social Hall in Huntley. Doug joined Scouts in November of 1973 and has gone through the ranks of Scouting. His Eagle Scout service project was a Welcoming sign and planter box, which was placed in the Village Square. This project had to be submitted and approved by our local and district representatives of Scouting, also Huntley's Village Board had to approve the project. Doug has been selected to go to Philmont Scout Ranch and Explorer Base in Cimarron, New Mexico this summer. The son of Joyce Will, he is a Junior at Huntley High School and is employed at the huntley Supermarket. HARVESTORS TO HOLD CAR WASH MAY 12th Since winning the Share-the-Fun contest, we have been raising money to pay for our trip down to the Illinois State Fair. In addition to selling candy bars, we will be having a car wash. TheCAR WASH WILL BE HELD ON MAY Uth with a raindate of May 19th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. It will be held at the gravel section of the parking lot next to the Huntley Supermarket. Donations are $2.00 per car. Your support is deeply appreciated by our club. HUNTLEY DAY AT HISTORICAL MUSEUM MAY 13th Huntley Day will be celebrat¬ ed at the McHenry County Historical Museum in Union on May 13th,. 1:30 to 4:30.
