Fire  Dept. Shows  Increase In Activity
During 1987 the Huntley Fire Protection District had a thirty percent increase in calls, the largest percentage being ambulance calls. The increase has continued during the first five months of 1988 as the department is averaging about 55 calls per month, with seventy-five percent being amubulance calls.
The fire department has thirty-three paid on call members but only about eight to ten firemen available in the daytime Monday thru Friday. This is due to firemen working out of town and local businesses not allowing firemen to respond to fire or ambulance calls in the day time. When the fire department was responding to two or three calls per week local businesses had no problem allowing firemen to leave their jobs. Now that we are responding to two or three calls per day the cost of paying the firemen by local businesses has increased plus the loss of production. This problem is throughout the area due to construction of new homes and businesses which has increased the population.
The Illinois Department of Public Health and the Greater Elgin Mobile Intensive Care Program requires at least one Paramedic and one EMT on every ambulance call, but would Hke to have two Paramedics and two EMT's on each call if possible. At the present we have three certified Paramedics avail¬ able in the daytime Monday thru Friday and several EMT's. The department has two paramedics available every other day if they happen to be in town and available to respond. If the residents of the Huntley Fire Protection District want to continue to have the best fire and ambulance service available some changes may have to be made.

Lion's  Club  Steak  Fry  a  Success!

Last Saturday the Lions sponsored a Steak Fry at the American Legion in Huntely. Over 300 people were served a delicious meal by the Lions and their wives.
Huntley  Lioness  Awards  Dinner June  15,  1988
The Lioness Awards Dinner was held at Bills Village Inn and was attended by 19 Lioness and their guests. Special guests were Lion's President Darrell Gurnett and his wife, Lioness Liason Dick Kohley and his wife, and our Bingo Sound Technician Barney Manning.
Following a prayer, led by Lion Del Borhart, the group enjoyed a delicious meal.
Lioness Carol Weirich then installed our newest member, Sue Bernet.
President Jensen then turned the meeting over to the Awards Committee. Every Lioness was honored for her share in making 1987-88 a successful year. Perfect attendance pins were also awarded.
At this point Lioness Phyllis Brettschneider was selected as "Lioness of the Year." She was selected as someone who had given of her time and knowledge, headed the Candle Lite Bowl, had been on the winning team at the State Bowling tournament, and who took on one of the most difficult jobs of all,

President Jensen was presented with a scrapbook contining 1987-88 mementos and photos. She then presented her board with gifts.
Names were drawn and the lucky winners were able to take the centerpieces home.
There will be no meeting in July. The next meeting will be on August 17th.

Library  News
In recent months a large number of Huntley area residents have been showing a growing interest in forming a public library district.  The proposed boundaries of the library district would conform to, or be the same as, that of Huntley School District #158.  Therefore if your children or neighboring children attend the Huntley schools your household would be included in the new library district.
The new library will be a taxing district.  A question of interest to every resident is, "As a homeowner and taxpayer, just how much will this library cost me?"  In an effort to answer this question we will have to examine the library tax-rates of neighboring communities.
