Ihc Huntloy Lion's sponsored the round trip. Ihe group was treated to a show with elephants, horses, high wire acts and clowns, rhere were even elephant rides for the children. A great time was had by all!! paying i'or hearing aids for those who need them. A special LIONESS CLUB MEETING The Huntley Lioness Club held their monthly meeting last Wednesday, July 15 at the Legion Hall under the new President Dorothy Schaller. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance and "God Bless America" Secretary Holly Seiler read the minutes and the Treasurer's Report. Alengthy discussion pursued as to Huntley Festival Oay. There will be a bake sale with primarily pies and coffee cakes being sold. People may also purchase a slice of pie for SOc and a slice of pie with ice cream for 75c. The Lioness Gub decided to sell ice cream cones from 9-12 noon. One scoop ice cream cone is 25c and a double is SOc. Liason officer Dennis Rud¬ sinski initiated Joanne Zirk and Ann Gionetti into the -Lioness Club in a candlelight ceremony. Chairman Phyllis Ewert reported on the hearing units. They will cost SlSO apiece and will be offered to each of the three Huntley churches. The churches would have to take care of the installation. Chairman Carol Weirich reported on Playnight. Those working cannot accept the special cards if their name is drawn. A discussion was held on committee will be set up to take all requests. Under no circum¬ stances would the name of anyone requesting this -be publicized. The Lionesses decided to buy a case of Xerox paper. DFC has been kind enough to provide not only the machine but the paper for the club for over a year. A motion passed not to hold a meeting in August. All members are asked to start preparing their items for the bazaar in October. Pies for Huntley Festival Day Bake sale should be brought to the Legion Home by 8:00 a.m. on August 15th. Huntley Festival Day will begin at 9 a.m. ED SCHWEIGER NAMED TO COUNTY BOARD Last luesday. July 21, the McHenry County Board named hd Schweiger of Huntley to the Board Iron) District 1. there had been a candidate trom Crystal Lake nominated in committee but he was not accepted, fhor hmricson nominated Mr. Schweiger. Voting lor Mr. Schweiger from District 1 were Phyllis Walters. Gary Verdung and Oeorge Watson Lowe. Ihe vote was 12-10. HUNTLEY FESTIVAL DAY Huntley Festival Day is four weeks away. Some addsd eve^ are now completed. The Lioness Club will not only have a Bake Sale from 9-12 noon but will also sell slices of pie with or without ice cream and ice cream cones for the children. The Seniors will have their bake sale in the morning also at the Huntley Center. The Kitchen Band will have their first concert at the Huntley Center at 10 a.m. and the second one in the Downtown Park at 12 noon. To go along with all the ice cream and cake at the Legion Hall the Huntley High School Art students will have a display of their art work at the American Legion Hall. All of last year's art students are asked to contact Mrs. Griffin at 459-5510 or to leave a message at the high school for her - phone 669-5171. Clowns from the Huntiey Park District will be running the children's games under the direction of Betsey Warrington. A pet parade and contest is being planned by the Republi¬ can. Huntley Boy Scouts are going to sell ballons at the Downtown Park and Huntley Center. The scouts will be dressed as clowns and made up by the Huntley Park District Clown Class which is headed by Wayne Blake. Huntiey Festival Day will begin at 9:00 a.m. Coral Street will be blocked off all day and in the evening for the dance held at the American Legion. Anyone interested in display¬ ing arts and crafts or any Huntley clubs interested in being a pari of this day should call Marge O'Brien at 669-5621. We still have a few openings for muscical groups from rock and roll to vocal to chorus. Please call Louise Kreutzer at 669-5657 for more information. MISS MCHENRY COUNTY CONTEST Last Thursday, the Miss McHenry County Preliminary Contest was held at Chapel Hill Country Club with 14 girls competing in evening gown and swimsuit appau-el. The dinner was organized by Dorothy Kleckner and Don Peasley. Van Sells was the MC. Attending irom Huntley were Lion and Lioness Sponsors, Dick and Holly Seiler and Garry & Linda Borchart. Linda is a member of the Miss McHenry County Committee. This affair is held every year to give thc judges and press a chance to meet the girls informally. Sandra Kowe, Miss Huntley, will appear at the final competition at which Miss McHenry County will be named at the Fair on Wednesday. August 5 at 7:30 p.m. PARK DISTRICT UN-BIRTHDAY PARTY Friday, July 24 is everyone's UN-Birthdaylll Huntley Park District is sponsoring a party to be held in Deicke Park to celebrate the occasion I There will be a special appearance by Funny Bones the magic down as well as cake St ioe cream, balloons, games & Much morel Bring a gift to exchange that is valued at not more than S2.00 at 1:00 p.m. in the hill shelter.
