This coming May 7th, the Huntley Lion's Qub will hold its Annual Installation, and their 30th anniversary Dinner at the Cloven Hoof resturant. HISTORY OF THE HUNTLEY UONS CLUB by Chock Lamb April 12,1977 The 1947 Hundey Lions Qub Charter Was presented at a dinner meeting May 14, 1947 in the basement of St. Mary's Cathcdtc Church. Harvard Lions Qub were sponsors of the Huntiey Qub. On April 29, 1%7, the club celebrated their 20th anniversary with a dinner dance at Shady Lane in Marengo. Today the membership of the Huntiey Linos is 72 with 40 to 4S members at each meeting: The Huntiey Lions Qub follows the tradidtion of Lions International with projects of service to the community, state, ' nation, and Internationally. One of the first things they did 30 years ago was to purchase the liand uniforms for the members of the Huntiey High School Band, which at that time had just been organized. The local club also purchased and installed the lights and lighted scoreboard on the football field when that sport was unaugurated. They also buile the first tennis courts, Sponsored the teener-league program, sponsored the Queen Candidate for the McHenry Co. Fair, donated monies to the Huntiey Rescue Squad, paid for glasses for thedeedy in the community, sponsored the treats at the tlHuistmas Program, given monies to the Leader Dog School, Hadley School for the Blind, Braille systems, sports competitionfor the blind and Handicapped, sponsored the Glaucoma Units, and many, many, other projects. Each year in June (Fathers Day) they serve a chicken Bar-B-Q which attracts hundreds to the Village with Country Charm. Present Officers: Eddie Hayes, President, lst Vice President, Chuck Ruth; 2nd Vice President, Dennis Rudsinski; 3rd Vice President, Jim Weirich; Tailtwisters, Dick Swanson and Don Kohley; Lion Tamer, Bud Ewert; Directors, Mel Ewert, Mel Johnson, Bdon Pfaff and Tom Swanson; Secretary - Treasurer, Chuck Lamb. The Huntieyi-ions Qub will celebrate their 30th Birthday on May. 7,1977 at the Qoven Hoof RestraUnt, along with the Installation of officers for the Coming year. The Huntiey Lions Qub was organized April 30,1947. Charter Nite Was May 14, 1947. Officers were: Ray Kelly, President; Norroan Kalsow, 1st Vice Pres.; Lester Ewert, 2nd Vice Pres.; George Sharpe. 3rd Vice Pres.; Wm. P. Hoy, Treasurer; George Dolby, Lion Tamer; Dan O'RouAe, Tailtwister; Earle Johnson, William Jenkins, C.F.Qanton and R.D. Hairr, Directors^ Howard Ferreira, Secretary; Members were: Marritt Anderson, Dixie Andrews, Frank Brosseit, C.W. Qanton, den Cole Jr., Father Day, George Dolby, Lester Ewert, Howard Fetrein, R.D. Halre, Edwin Hangartner, Rev. Walter Heyl, Wm. Set aside the 14th May ^.Miiy tMbtat pwty and For the Seventh Year in a row Troop 167 attended the 23 Annual ; Grant Pilgrimage, April 23 and 24 which is held in Galena 111. was once attended by 13 boys and 5 adults of Troop 167. The warm and unexpected Sat. was welcome relief over last years rain. The boys spent most ofthe morning and early afternoon sight seeing Galenas beautiful and historical past. The boys once again brought home 3rd place for The Best Dressed Troop which is quite an honor considering the hundreds of Troops that attended the Pilgrimage. The Troop also had a chance to visit the only open land mine in 111.. This mine and the lead extracted gave Galena, its name and fame. 1ST COMMUNION SUNDAY AT ST. MARY'S This Sunday, May 1st, will be first Communion Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huntiey, at the 8:00 am mass. The first communicates are as follows: Boys-Christoper John Briscoe, Gerry Dedina, Dennis Frank Drendel, Christopher John Freund, James Lewandowski, Michael Jame Riedl, Michael Urban, Michael Anthony VanAcker, Joseph Patrick Senio. Past Intemations Director Dominic Carlone was guest speaker, and invited all Lions to the International Convention in his native state of Louisiana(New Orleans) in June. Highlights 01 the convention was a special Lion of The Year Banquet April 23 at the time Charles Lamb was honored by having his name placed in nomin¬ ation for the award along with 45 others. Mr. Raymond Bock,Sr. of the Richmond Lions Qub was selected. On April 24th,Mr. Wallace Hanford of Glen Ellyn was elected Govemor, Mr. Bob Ostrom was elected Lieut. Gover¬ nor. Mr. Ostrom is from Burling¬ ton. John Oberweis of Aurora was elected Trustee for the Lions of Illinois Foundation.. Govemor- Qect Hanford has selected lion Mel Ewert of Huntley as Zone Chairman for the Fox River Region. Huntiey is proud to have this distinction.
