Queen Of The Breed

Bob and Kaye Miller of Mil-R-Mor Farm, just 5 miles east of Huntley have achieved national recognition. They are the owners of a cow which has been selected "Queen of the Breed".
"Holstein World", the official breed publication, initiated a contest which involved nearly every registered Holstein Breeder in the United States as well as citizens in over twenty foreign countries who are interested in U.S. Holsteins.
Mr. Miller purchased C. Glenridge Ctation Roxy (4E-97-GMD) from Lome Loveridge, a successful Canadian breeder, in 1974. Following an accident which resulted in internal injuries, Roxy became an active ET cow.
Queen of the breed brood cow of the century, the complete cow and many more superlatives can be readily credited to Roxy. She has withstood the test of time and made a major contribution to the Holstein breed. As a third generation, 200,000 lb. milk producer and member of eight AU-American, All Canadian or Reserve All-Canadian groups, she distinguishes herself on both sides of the philosophical breeding ledger. Her own accomplishments are but a magnification of her maternal influence and a mirror of the traits that she passed on to her 33 offspring, 20 daughters and 13 sons. Continued from page 11

Keep The Wreath Red Update
Program a Success
For the fourth straight year the Huntley Fire Protection District's "Keep The Wreath Red" program was a huge success. During the hol¬ idays there were no fires caused by decorations or re¬ lated items and the lights on the wreath remained red.
The Huntley Fire Protection District would Hke to thank all the residents of the dis¬ trict for keeping their homes fire safe and thinking of fire safety. Now that the holidays are over, please don't relax but continue to check your homes for dry con¬ ditions that may cause a fire. During the winter months be extremely careful with portable heaters as these are a major cause of fires and related deaths.
