SUPERVISOR RUTH
SPEAKS ON THE PROPOSED AIRPORT
The City of Crystal Lake has recently published the results of its initial study, of a proposed airport. As three of the possible alternate locations fall within the confines of Grafton Township, I investigated the work to date and would like to report the following to you.
First: These proposals are a result of a pilot study and are by . mo means definite. These locations were selected based upon the parameters of land contour, noise polluation, and availability.
Second: According to the Aeronautic Act, the governing body or bodies that sopnsor an airport are the sole receipants of all tax revenue generated. To date Crystal Lake is the only
entity that has pursued sponsor¬ ing this by means of its pilot studies. The construction cost would be underwritten 90'/i by Federal and State money and lO'/i by the local sponsoring government. Since Huntley, Woodstock, Crystal take, Grafton Township and other are all contigious to the proposed airport, all of these governmental bodies could be ruled by a Board of Commissioners comprised of representatives from each spon¬ sor.
Third: The zoning within the area ofthe airport would fall under the jurisdictioii of the sponsoring governmental body. Fourth: To my understanding, such action of sponsoring an airport does not require a referdum. That is, it could be accomplished merely by Board action^
On May 9th at 8:00 pm in the Council Oiambers of Crystal Lake
City Hall there will be a public meeting of the Ad Hoc Airport Advisory Committee. It is the duty of this committee to predent the Ad Hoc Airport Advisory Committee. It is the duty of this committee to ptesent the results of its study to the Crystal Lake City CouncU. As the outcome of their study could greatly influence this area, I strongly recommend all inter¬ ested persons to attend and become more knowledgeable of what is planned and let yonr feeling be heard.
Thank you,
Charles W. Ruth
