Rt 17 Tollway Entrance Contract Let
After a nuniber of years of waiting the Illinois rollway Commission has awarded a contract for an Eastbound iiiterchange on Rte. 47 south of Huntley. The interchange will cost $1,199,224.66. The bid was awarded to the Eric Bnhvnder Construction Company in cooperation with the E. M. Mellahan Construction C'ompany of Algonquin. It is estimated that the exchange will be completed In the fall of 1972. Worli to obtain an inter¬ change on Rte. 47 was started in 1960 iu Huntley under the leadership of then Grafton township supervisor Harley Macal>en. A meeting was held in the upstairs of the Iluntley Village Hall after which petitions were cir¬ culated throughout Huntley and later McHenry County. These petitions were presented to the Illinois Tollway Commission. Senator Dennis Cowiins, of 33rd District and State Representative Daniel Pierce of tho 32nd DLstrict which served Iluntley spearheaded the drive to get the Rte. 47 entrance.
Rte. 47 is the shortest route from Chicago to the Lake Geneva Resort Area. The tollway interchange should bring increased traffic and popula¬ tion lo the Huntlcy area.
Senator Cowllins staled ". . . Thcy should be starting something there in a few weeks . . . We've been working ou this project for several years and I am happy that it has become a final reality . . . hopefully in tho future they will have a western interchange as well a.s one from the east on Rte. 47."
House Moved from C L to Hnntley

Tho housf, which sUxxl on Ladd Enterprise land, was slated for de¬ molition when it was purchased by Michael Morlimor, a Ijadd em¬ ployee, and his father for a nom¬ inal fee.
The aciuiJ movinp of the hou.so from its location on Virginia Road in Crystiil l.ake took approximately seven hours. The only two problems occured after the house was in Huntley. The first was when the 3I'S" house hung up on two tele phone poles 32 feet apart. The second happened when it tumed unto Myrtle Street from  Main.
The house was moved by the Belding Engineering Corporation of
West Chicago. The estimated cost for moving was 516.500. However. lifter delays caused by the City of Crystal l.ake, the estimate wa.s i-evised upwards to $18,000.
According to Mr. Mortimor, the City of Crystal l^ke charged $500. for a permit to move the hou.se. He said they then revoved the permit on. the day it was to be moved because of an insurance technicality. This, Mr. Mortimor said, cost hun and additional $400. in payments to utility company employees who ac¬ companied the house on its journey to Huntley.
The house now sits on the north¬ east comer of Myrtle and Second Streets.
Mr, Mortimer expressed his ap¬ preciation to the Huntky Village officials for the'ir cooperation.
Huntley Medical Center Broken Into
The Huntley Medical Conter was broken into between the hours of 8 p.m. August 19th and 8:30 a.m. August 2(H.h. Person or persoas un¬ known broke into the HunUey Medi¬ cal Center on the Algonquin Rlack- top. Entrance w;us gained by jimmy¬ ing the rear door at the Medicul Center used leading to the dentist's offce. TT'is doar is secured by a steel bar. After gaining entrance the thieves ttxik four wigs, $I0.(K) in change from a cash regifter and $8.00 from another place, a Bell & Howell stereo with speakers, a iri/or worth $3,001 The estimated value of the wigs was $70.00.
The McHenry County Sheriff's Do- partment and Huntley Police De¬ partment are workinj; on several leads  and  suspects in  the  robbery.
The Medical Center houses a don- list's office and a beauty salon own¬ ed by Jack 7,ank. The thieves by¬ passed lhe dental office to get to the beauty  salon.
Huntley Shoe Box Broken Into
Between the hours of ') a.m. and 9 p.m. on Thur.stlay, August 26th and Friday, August 27th thieves broke into tho Huntley Shoe Box. located on East Main Street. En¬ trance was gained to the building by removing a plastic covering on a rear window on the west side of the building.
Hunitley police and McHenry County Sheriffs Deputies are look¬ ing for, a small person ib tnis burg¬ lary. Entrance was gained to the huildirg- thru an opening of 7Vi inch¬ es. $42.10 in ca^ was taken and en undetermined number of shoes.

Nelson Addresses School
On the opendng ^half-day of school. August 27, Police Chief Richard Nelson spoke to each junior high and elementary classroom in the Huntley school. Chief Nelson dis¬ cussed various aspects of traffic safety and gave special emphasis to the fact that no children are to walk up or down Route 47 before or after school. School officials urge that parents cooperate strongly in keeping children off the highway.

1st Day of School

A total of 766 students reported for the first day of classes at Hunt- ley Consolidated schools. Of this figure 541 were in tho elementary classes grades, K thru 8, and 225 are emollod in the high school. The students were greeted by 3 new high
school teachers and 2 Aeitf grade school teHchers. The enrollmert is down this year by approximately 30 students in the grade school. Ac¬ cording to a school spokesman from the high school the ervrollment re¬ mains the same.
