RATS POPULATION FINALLY MEETS ITS END by l\^rge O'Brien
Animal Control is a division of the ^McHenry County Health Department. In recent weeks, they have received many calls from Huntley residents concerning the rat population on Church Street. The first call was placed on Septemt>er 7th and was answered on September 9th. The Animal Control came to a Huntley residence and determined without visual contact that weasels were bothering the resident.
On September 11th this same Huntley citizen caught a rat in a trap in their back yard. At this time, a Huntley Policeman identified the animal as a rat and notified Animal Control. On September 16th your editors called with no real result. The Mayor and Board memtDers also contacted this agency. Finally on Septemt)er 21st the Health Department was on the scene and handling the rat problem after nrxDre calls from residents and also this newspaper.
On Monday, Septemt)er 20th, we spoke to Mr. Dick Wissel, from the Health Department, who stated that he had first been notified of this situation on Friday, September 17th and the request for service was on the senior sanitarians desk and would be handled on Monday or Tuesday. He asked when the first call had come in and we informed him on Septemt>er 7th.
The following is the agreement between the Health Board and the Village Board which was approved by the County Board on June 14th and signed on June 25th, 1976. The contract was made on the 29th of April 1976. It states as follows: the County will provide services to the Village through the Department of Health Division of Veterinary Public Health.
A. Animal Patrol by auto will patrol area for a minimum numt>er of hours per week.
B. County Warden shall answer all calls regard¬ ing animal control made by residents as soon as possible considering circumstances when received and other obligations. Routine calls shall not be answered after 9 PM. Emergency calls answered anytime.
C. Ali animal complaints or animal control complaints will be answered by the County.
D. All animal oontroi measures - including but not limited to tranquilization, live traps and other means for apprehending stray animals shall be operated by the Health Depart¬ ment within Village limits.
E. The County shall provide for all animal bite investigations and other necessary animal control within the corporate limits.
F. The County will enforce all animal control violations.
G. All animal complaints go to Sheriff's Depart¬ ment and are relayed to the Department of County Animal Control warden.
H. All complaints are to be serviced by the Animal Warden at a time determined by him and in his opinion most efficient and consistent with good animal control practice for the entire county.
HUNTLEY CREDIT UNION . REACH 1/4 CENTURY OF ^ SERVICE
President Magnus Budgard accepted a coav memorative plaque presented by Field Represent¬ ative, Donna Simmons of the Illinois Credit Union League during their Septemtier 20, 1976 monthly Board of Directors Meeting. Shecomplinnented the Credit Union in attaining 25 years in serving the needs of its members. Huntley Community Credit Union currently a quarter of a million dollar j corporation has a membership of over 700 consumers who reside or work in the community.

This is to inform you that the proposed improvement of Illinois Route 47 from Main Street irt Huntley to Hlinois Route 176 is part of the $59 million dollar street and bridge repair program for the metropolitan area, as announced by Governor Dan Wal¬ ker.
The improvement of FAP Route 100 (Illinois Route 47) from Illinois Route 176 to Main Street to Huntley consists basically of widening and resurfacing the existing roadway to provide for a

i. Emergency calls inciude but are not limited to animal bites, suspected rabid animals and calls concerning animals deemed dangerous to pubiic health.
J. The County shall pay and defray all costs for impoundment or confinement of strays, biters or others.
The contract goes on to say that the County has exclusive rights on registering dogs guaranteed by the contract. The money from this is used to run the Animal Control Department. This contract is good for one year.
The Animal Control Department is open 24 hours a day with one man to cover each shift on the road.

MEETING
The Citizens Advisory Council of Huntley urges those who wish to leam more about the proposed McHenry County Area Vocational
. Center to attend an information meeting on this issue Thursday.
•September 23rd in the First Congregational Church social hall
' at 7:30 PM.
Mr. Chet Knight from the Illinois School Consulting Service will give a slide presentation explaining other vocational cen¬ ters now operating in the state, the cost of a center, and just what
¦our community would gain by beionging to a county-wide voca¬ tional center. Jim Bond, chairman of the referendum committee for District #158, will conduct the meeting. Mr. Knight will speak at 8:00 p.m. and there will be coffee and a question and answer period after his talk. Also. Bob Zirk, the Huntley school board representa¬ tive to the McHenry County Vocational Board will be in atten¬ dance to answer questions about the proposed center.
The C.A.C. is not taking a stand on this issue but only wants to notify the public of the meeting and the referendum which will be held October 2. 1976. Be sure to cast your vote that day at the Village Hall in Huntley. Polls will be open from 12:00 am to 7:00 pm.
AN INVITATION TO JOIN BOY SCOUT TROOP 167
On Sunday. October 3rd the Huntley Boy Scouts will hold a , Court of Honor at Dcike Park at 4 p.m. In case of rain the ceremony will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church.
The scouts attend a cordial invitation to any boy between the ages of 11 (or in the sixth grade) or older to bring their parents and join the troUp.
The Huntley Boy Scouts are a very active organization. Perio¬ dically they go on camp outs and participate in parades and other activities: Scouting trains the young man in certain basic skills which will be usefull to him throughout his life. In addition there is a comradery which is the basis for lasting friendships.
At present there are approx¬ imately twenty boys in the Hunt¬ ley troop. The troop would like to double this number and urges parents and their sons to come and join with them on Sunday, October 3rd.
