WHEREAS, Thousand of gallant of gallant Americans have paid the supreme sacrifice for the preservat¬ ion of our precious American herit¬ age; and
WHEREAS. It is bth fitting and proper that a special day foe set aside to pay tribute to their deeds as weB as honor tbe miUlons of Americans who wore the uniform of our country with honor in time of war and have also passed away into eternity; and
WHEREAS, More than a century ago tbe first order was issued for a nationwide observance of a day )*designated for tbe purpose ot strewing with flowers w otherwise decorating graves of comrades 'who died in defense of their country;" and
