Special Park Board Meeting HELD JUNE 22. 1970 A special meeting was held by the Huntley Park Board on June 22, 1970 at 8:00 P M. Upon roll call, quirenients. 1. Deputization of Commissioners as conservators of peace for main tenance of order on park facilities. Mr. Piske made a motion to in¬ struct the secratary to order badpes and identification cards for the com¬ missioners, the motion was seconded by Mr. Parisek, and upon roll call, all commissioners voted aye cind the motion carried. It was also approved to include section 4-7 of the Park Code in the General Ordinances. The choice of tho badge was left to Mrs. Tessendorf. 1. Picnic reservations arc to be made with the President of the Huntley Park District. 2. Unreserve tables may be used on "first come'' basis. Num¬ bered tables must be yielded upon demand to a group with a written permit for the speci¬ fic table. Tables used for re¬ servations are numbered. 3. A $5.00 entrance fee, per car, for non-residents. 4. Motor vehicles permitted in parking areas only. 5. No reservations for picniking accepted, before Jan. Ist. Continued on Paite Two SPECIAL PARK BOARD Two Men Fall From New Water Tower On Tuesday, June 23, at 3:45 P.M. two workmen of the University Tank and Iron Company fell from the scapholding on the inside of the new water tower under construc¬ tion North of Huntley. The men were David HIehm of Curtlain, Illi¬ nois, 26, and Henry Hunt, 23, of Benton, Kentucky. Foreman Donald Leshbrook stated that the two in¬ jured men were working on the scap holding in-side of the water tower. Hlehm feel about 43 feet and Hunt Continued on Page Two TWO MEN FALL FROM TOWER Fireworks Warning Police Cheif Nelson Issues Fireworks Warning Riciiard Nelson, chief of police in Huntley, reminds residents that fireworks are illegal under Illinois state law. They are also illegal under the village Noise-Making Ordinance. The police chief stated that vio¬ lators of this law will be prosecut¬ ed and the Illegal explosives con¬ fiscated. He urges residents to contact him if a violation is observed so that no one will be injured due to the mi^andling ot fireworks. The chief reminds residents that just recently two Huirtley firemen were burned very seriously in an ex¬ plosion in the fireworks factory. Cooperative Educaation The board of education has ap¬ proved a cooperative education course for the next school year. Roger Simpson has been appoint¬ ed as the coordinator of the co¬ operative education course, some¬ times called "on the job training.'' Approximately thirty students have indicated a desire to be placed in a training .station next year. In¬ cluded with this letter is a list of jobs in which our students have in¬ dicated an inteerst. In preparing to place students properly in a training station, we have asked the lllirK)is Employment Service to test and counsel the stu¬ dents. Evaluations by the students' teachers have also been collected. The seniors for next year have also taken the Armed Forces Aptitude lest. Mr. Continued on Page Two COOPERATIVE EDUCATION No Garbage Pickup July 4th Mr. Kahl of Kahl's Disposal an¬ nounced that due to the Fourth of July holiday, tin cans and bottles will be picked up on Friday July 3. There will be no pickup on Saturday July 4. Beverly Dimon, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Dimon, Mc¬ Henry, is the new McHenry County Dairy Princess. Diane Adams, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Adams, Mc¬ Henry ,was first runnerup. McHenry's two entries swept tho two top spots in exciting McHenry County Dairy Princess competition this year. Winners were crowned at the annual Dairy Banquet, spon¬ sored each year to climax dairy promotion in McHenry County by the McHenry County Dairy Promo¬ tion Council. Judy Rich crowned her successor. Miss Rich will represent McHenry County in the ADA of Illinois Dairy Princess contest in August. Miss Dimon will accompany her to this contest to observe and pre¬ pare for the 1971 competition. Miss Adams was also a guest at this luncheon, attended by members of the county press to greet and con- gradulate the wining duo from Mc- Condnued on Page Five DAIRY PRINCESS Letter of Intent The deadline for the Board of Education to receive Notification of Intent fo attend a Public Junior Col¬ lege has been extended to August I, 1970. This letter of intent is necessary for anyone who plans to attend Junior College during the 70-71 year and who will be requesting partial financial support. The Board of Education can under the provisions of the law extend the deadline beyond the July 1st set within the Junior College Act. "Notification of Intent to attend" forms can be secured from the High School Office any week day from 8:00 to 4:00. Park Board Meeting MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE HUNTLEY PARK DISTRICT The regular meeting of the Hunt- Icy Park Board was held Wednes¬ day. June 24. 1970 at 7:30 P.M. Upon roll call, those present were: Commissioners Deicke, Piske and Tessendorf; absent wer§ Commis¬ sioners Parisek, & Ream; also in attendance was Mr.. Scheflow. A visitor, Mr. James Oerkfitz, Director of Parks & Recreation of the Crystal Lake Park District, was presented to the Board. He was there due to an invitation extended to him by Mrs. Tessendorf on be¬ half of the Board. Mr. Oerkfitz then those present were: Commissioners PLske, Parisek and Tessendorf; ab¬ sent, Deicke and Ream. Also in at¬ tendance was Attorney Cowlin. This meeting was held for the pur¬ pose of completing. insurance re- talked to the Board in regard to planning programs and activities Continued oo Page Two PARK BOARD Flag Burning July 19 FLAG BURNING CEREMONY The Huntley Legion Post 673 will have a fla^ burning ceremony on Sunday, July 19 th at the Village Square at 1:30 P.M. Tom or other¬ wise unserviceable flags will be burned as prescribed. Anyone hav¬ ing such flags, please bring them to the Legion Home before that date. If unable to bring them in person, call the Legion at 669-5551, or Hedy Leonard at 669-5425. Arrangements will be made to pick up such flags. Although Huntley Post in conduc1> ing the ceremony, and other Posts in the country are being invited to participate, this is a community program. A fitting and proper cere¬ mony is being planned, and every¬ one is invited to attend. Complete arrangements will be announced later. Fireworks Diisplay In Huntley July Sth Mr. Lewis Meridy, owner of tite Carpentersville Fireworks and pow¬ der parks of Huntley. The display, being put on by the company, will be held Sunday, July fifth in the area of the new water tower just North of Huntley off Route 47. The display will start at dusk and fea¬ ture a spectacular variety of fire¬ works. Mr. Meridy is putting on the display in appreciaticm of the people ofHuntley. Those attending the dis¬ play are asked not to park on Route 47 as there is a law against parking on a State highway. Tires Slashed in Huntley The Huntley police were sum- mended to the area of Woodstiock and Carl Streets early Sunday Mor¬ ning, June 28, to invesigate tires which either the air let out of theni or had been slashed. Roy Miller and Bud Weber had tires slashed on their automobiles. Mrs. Alvina An¬ derson and Gary Balkey had the air let out of their Ures. Huntley police fixed the time of the vandaJism sometime between the hours of Sat¬ urday, June 27, at 11:00 P.M. and 4:00 A.M. June 28. There was an out-of-town wed¬ ding party at the American Legion on June 27.
