Construction Underway
Construction began last week on the Huntley-Crystal Lake blacktop one mile north of Rudsin¬ ski or Sims farm. The purpose of this construction is to level sev¬ eral hills by taking 6 feet off the top and filling in the valleys with the dirt. The construction is be¬ ing done by the K. P. Bakley Con¬ struction Co. of Huntley. Several years ago, we have been told, Leroy Strissel lost an arm on these hills when his car was side- swii>ed.
Road Commissioner Louis Sch¬ achtner constructed barricades at cither end of the construction of the construction zone. However, on Tuesday and Wednesday nights of last week the barricades were torn down, the warning lights tipped over, stolen or de¬ stroyed and the culverts rtcently replaced by the township were put at the bottom of the hills. Township officials have th<rir own suspicions of who did thepjJFidal- jam endangering the lives . . mo- %ottrt> drMpy "^on the road at nii^ l|iW««v«% tm arrests have
"rae barricades which, vwere broken in two were con( kted of 2 X 12 planks nailed tijfeiKher and fastened to treated posts. It is assumed' that the vandals at¬ tached a log chain to the plank, attaching it to a car in order to do this damage. Commissioner Schachtner estimates that more than 20 warning lamps have beer lost, which will have to be re¬ placed out of tax funds.
In its continuing effort to im¬ prove Grafton township roads the township has eliminated a curvs and a hill on Joster Road. This work was also done by the Bakley Construction Co. and ia scheduled for blacktopping some time next year.
Construction has begun on rtew roads to Colleen's Cote under the close scrutiny of Commissioner Schachtner who insists that the letter of the law must be applied to this construction if the roads are tp be accepted by the town¬ ship at a larer date.
