"Need A LUt?"
The American Legion's edu¬ cation and scholarship hand¬ book, "Need a Lift?", containing information about hundreds of college and vocational school scholarsliips for qualified high school students of this area has been presented to Huntley and Huntley P.T.A. by Huntley No. 673 of The Arherican Legion Auxiliary.
This annually revised publication for the 1963-64 sdiool year is rec¬ ognized as one of the most com¬ plete and up-to-date sources of ca¬ reer and scholarship infonnation in the United States. The handbook does not limit its listings to chU¬ dren of veterans but contains sdiolarships and educational aids which are available to all students.
Mrs. Lima Tessendorf, Education and Scholaraiiip Chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary, stated that thousands of young pei^le have not taken advantage of the generous educational aids which are available due to a failure to plan early for their future educa¬ tion.
She mentioned in particular tbe Junior GI Bill, which provides up to $110 per month for four years of educational help for sons and daughters of veterans wtw lost their lives as the result of military service. Over half of the young people eligible for this help have failed to a[^ly.
Experience has proven that plans for higher education should begin during the student's soi^cxnore year in high school. "The boy or girl who starts considering careetr and scholarship sources early, is the one with the best (diance of go¬ ing on to s<*ool,".
Parents and students are en¬ couraged to make use of the cop¬ ies of "Need a Lift?" provided as a service to the community. The publication, prepared by the Amer¬ ican Legion's Educatim and Sch(riarship Program, National Americanism Division in Indian¬ apolis is now in its 12th editon wth distribution oi ntara than three quarters of a mfllion co{riai since its fixst issue in 1951.
