The new lines on the north side of the business district of Main Street have been painted at a sharper angle. Supt. Swanson states that this was done to give four more feet of driving space on Main Street. Residents are urged to park within the marked park¬ ing lines. The lines on the south side of aMin Street are painted at the same angle as in previous years. Supt. Swanson stated that if the new angular lines are success¬ ful on the north side of the street, ne.xt year they will also be painted on the south side, giving an ad¬ ditional four feet of driving area, increasing the size of Main Street by eight feet. Scott stated in his recent report that during the month of May Municipal Retailer's Tax for Huntley was $1170.52, HampsWre $1107.17, Marengo $2113.08, and Union $99.48. In the report the complete list of taxes received from ail towns in the State of Illinois was listed. Ouct of 68 counties listed, McHenry County ranked ninth from tho highest, with a total of $9377.02 paid under the provisions of the County Service Occupation Tax County Retailer's Tax Act and the Act, disbursement of taxes, paid by retailers in May, 1963. f • 'I;: ?5"*"f * .. Shots Heart Association Meeting Heart Dinner The Annual Meeting of the Mc¬ Henry County Unit of the Elinois Heart Association was held on Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Legion Home in Huntley. A delicious chi¬ cken dinner was server by the members of the Legion Aux. Dr. John R. Tambone, chairman of the McHenry County Heart Unite presided and introduced guests in attendance. Mrs. Edwin Eells, Vice President of Region III and a past president of the Illinois Heart Association was the guest speaker for the evening. She spoke of the "Basic Program for Heart Units" and ex¬ plained the various types of activ¬ ities of the association in all phases of diseases of the heart and circul¬ atory system. She stressed the im¬ portance of the three arease of Education, -Research and program in the work of the association. She offered a new sologan [which she stated was contributed by Mrs. Lima Tessendorf of the local unit] "Put a little color in your life — try the Heart Association". During the business session the officers of the unit were author, ized to sign an "Affiliation Agree¬ ment" with the Illinois Heart As¬ sociation. In his report as Treasurer for the past year Mr. Hodges stated that the Huntley Unit was 4th high in the county in the amount Of money collected in the last Fund Raising Campaign. Mrs. Lois HanT- mond was chairman of the local fund drive. "Scout Night" 1st Football G The Huntley High School Athletic Department has announc¬ ed that thef irst football game of the season on September 13th will be designated "Scout Night". All Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be admitted to Friday's nig^Va game Free of Charge. Tiie Gonanit- tee asks that the Scouts wear 13lail^ • uniforms or have identification. For their part in the event, the Scouts will do the Flag Presenta¬ tion. FLU SHOTS Now is the time to get flu shots if residents wish to be protected throughout the winter. Tiie shots are given in a series of two and can only be given at six to eight week intervals. The doctor's of¬ fice stated that flu can re-occur many times in one season and that having the flu early in the season does not build up an immunity against it throughout the rest of the year. Flu shots cannot be taken when a person has a cold. Huntley Village Board Meeting The regular monthly meeting of the Huntley Village Board was called to order by Mayor Wilpault Brill at 8:20 p.m. on Thursday, Sept«nber 5, at the Village Hall. %The reason for the late start of the meeting was that certain Board members and the Mayor attended the Heart Associ¬ ation dinner held that some evening. Trustees present: Ackmaa Staab, Wasserstrass, Enstrom, Secretary Enstrom and President Brill. Absent: Rudy, Fitzi, and Atty. Cowlin. The Secretary's and Treasurer's Reports were read and bills ordered paid on a motion by Enstrom, seconded by Staab. It was announced that the State of Ulinois has not approved plans for resurfacing 2nd Street from Myrtle to Woodstock Street and repairs and resurfacing of Myrtle Street from Main to 2nd St. At the August meeting of the Board a representative of Baxter & Woodman stated that a survey had t)een made on the matter of curb and gutters on Myrtle St. and the resurfacing of 2nd Street and the Village Board had decided to make the improvements, at a cost of $9700.00. However, before the con¬ struction could begin the plans had to be submitted by the engineering firm to the State of Illinois and due to a technical error on the forms, were rejected by the State. At this meeting the Village Board decided to resubmit the plans. Mr. K. P. Bakley was present at the meeting and asked if he might be permitted to install tile to drain his slough to connect with the sanitary sewer. A motion by Wasserstrass, sec(»Kled by EnstrtMn, would permit Mr. Bakley to do this. The motion passed. Mr. Raymond Kelley was present and stated that many towns had placed "Yield Right of Way to Pedestrian" signs on their streets.
