Update/No April Election For Huntley Library
The proponents of the referendum for the Huntley District Library were informed that it is impossible to make the April election date. All the legal work was not completed 130 days prior to the election date. It should have been informed that a board of trustee candidates must be selected prior to the election.
So now our aim is for the November election. This will give us more time to inform the citizens of our community of the need for a library. It will also give us more time to raise the needed funds.
Our committee is growing. We started out with 10 members. We have reached a calling list of 50 members who are now helping us. We hope to continue to grow in number. A meeting was held Tuesday evening. We will keep everyone posted about our activities. We are fmding out that it takes time for good things to happen. Like a child waits for Christmas, we now will have to wait until November.
Time is Getting Short!
Candidates who are interested in running for office in either Grafton Township or in the Village of Huntley must file their petitions by January 23. The following positions are to be filled in the village: Village President, Village Clerk, and 3 Trustees for 2 year terms. Grafton Township will be holding elections for Supervisor, Road Commissioner, Clerk, and 4 Trustees.
If you are planning to run for office in April, you may get a petition from Mary Lou Hardy for the Village election or from Dick Enstrom for the Township election.
Miss Illinois Sweetheart Runner-Up
Huntley resident Jamie Lynn Marshall was second runner-up in the Miss Illinois Sweetheart Pageant on August 20,1988. Marshall also received the Miss Photogenic Award. She is 9 years old and the daughter of James and Tina Marshall.
Finalists from 11 county pagents were invited to the statewide final competition held in Chicago. The pageant was hosted by Dick Johnson, WLS-TV Newscaster, and Cindi Hodgekins, 1987 Miss Illinois.
Contestants were judged on beauty, poise, personality, formal and casual attire and community service. They received community service points for the amount of donations they raised for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis is the number one genetic killer of children.
The pageant was divided into four age groups. The winner of each division received a scholarship to John Casablancas Modeling School and Career Center and a family weekend at a Wisconsin Dells resort. Runners-up received a variety of prizes including T-shirts, beauty products, cameras, TVs and savings bonds.

Huntley Fire And Ambulance Report  1988
The Huntley Fire Protection District ran 615 calls for
1988, 177 fire calls and 438 ambulance calls. This is a 20% increase over the 512 calls run during 1987. During 1987 we ran 169 fire calls and 343 ambulance calls. We had a 28% increase in ambulance calls during 1988 and only a 5% increase in fire calls.
The Fire District had only one serious structure fire during 1988 which proves that residents of the district are very fire safety minded. Fire Safety Education at the schools and Fire Inspections are a factor in limiting serious fires. The Huntley Fire District will continue to promote fire safety during
1989. Fire safety material, telephone stickers, and tot finder decals are available at Huntley Station #1 at no charge to the public.
The Huntley Fire Protection District will continue to provide the best fire and ambulance service available to the residents of the district. By working together we can make 1989 as fire free as possible.

The regular monthly  . meeting of the Huntley Planning Commission was called to order at 7:30 p.m. on December 12, 1988, by Chairman Rohlwing.  Those members of the board present were Joe Gow, Ed Domagalski, Paul Mercer, Jack Daum, Robert Schachtner, and Ron Hahn. Also present were Mayor Dhamer and Building Inspector Schaller.
The minutes of the November 14, 1988, meeting were read. One correction should be the zoning of the Huntley Center should be B-3 not B-2. Mr. Schachtner moved to accept the minutes as read.  Mr Domagalski seconded.  Motion
carried.  The agenda was read.
The first order of business was presented by Mr. Craig Hankin.  He is requesting a change in zoning on such property located at 10604 Mathew Street from a single family duplex, R-2 to R-3. It is on the end of Mathew Street, Lot 9.  Mr.  Hankin has talked to one neighbor who expressed opposition to a change in zoning.  He would put the duplex for sale. He showed a picture of a one-story duplex he would
like to build on the lot. Lot width is 99 feet.  The board  reviewed plans and map.
Mr. Domagalski moved that such property located at 10604 Mathew Street remain zoned R-2, single family dwelling. Mr. Gow seconded. Roll call vote was as follows: Gow, aye; Domogalski, aye; Mercer, aye; Daum, pass; Schachtner, aye; Hahn, aye; Rohlwing, aye.
There being six (6) ayes and one (1) passing vote, motion carried.
The next order of business was presented by Attorney
Bazos who represents Bill Galanis who purchased the residence at 11506 E. Main Street.  When Mr. Galanis
purchased said property he thought it was a two-unit building, it has two electrical meters. He applied for permits after purchstse in October and found out that the use as a two-unit had been stopped a few years ago so would have to appear before Planning Commission for R-3 zoning. North of his backyard will be duplexes (Grismer's property). Mr. Piske, who resides immediately east of the property said the
