Pinewood Derby Cub Scouts Pack 167
An activity project that the Cub Scouts thoughout the States have every year is the Pinewood Derby.
The wooden car kit, which each cub scout receives, takes on its own shape and "personality" as each boy molds and paints it to his own liking. Following strict rules and guidelines, the Cub Scout is now ready for the ultimate test of his "newly designed" car - SPEED - and the race is on!
Winners of the Pinewood Derby for Cub Scout Pack 167 (held in Huntley on Sat., January 14th) were:

Thanks to everyone involved with making this Pinewood Derby a success! Thanks so much for your "keen eye", judges. A special thanks to Rick Taylor and Tim Essig, who ran the race. Also, thanks for the use of the First Congregational Church Hall.
In April of this year, the first and second place winners of the Pinewood Derby (2nd through 5th grade) will go to Rockford to compete with other boys in the Blackhawk Council Area.

Planning
Commission
January 9, 1989
The regular monthly meeting of the Huntley Planning Commission was called to order at 7:35 p.m. on January 9, 1989, by Chairman Wilmer Rohlwing. Those members of the board present were Ed Domagalski, Joe Gow, Jack Daum, Robert Schachtner, Ron Hahn and Paul Mercer. Also present were Mayor Dhamer and Building Inspector Schaller.
The minutes of the December 12, 1988, meeting were read. Mr. Domagalski moved to accept the minutes as read. Mr. Gow seconded. Motion carried. The agenda was read.
The Hrst order of business was presented by Mr. Randy Zimmerman who presented plans on behalf of his father, Nornisn. He presented plans showing six lots along Huntley Algonquin Road which Mr. Zimmerman had discussed with the Planning Commission a few months earlier.
Mr. Daum moved to accept the plans as presented for Norman Zimmerman's six lots along Huntley Algonquin Road zoned R-1, single family. Mr. Gow seconded. Upon roll call there were six (6) ayes and no (0) nays, motion carried.
The next order of business was presented by Attorney Ralph Hardy who represents Jim and Linda Hilbert. Since the Hubert's last meeting with the Planning Commission, which they stated his property on Main Street next to Patterson Lumberyard was zoned R-5, multi-family, Attorney Hardy contacted Attorney Kukla who said the Hilberts would need either a PUD or a Plat of Subdivision for the lot. The Hilberts then had plans drawn up for a
subdivision of the lots in order to put up a four-unit apartment building. However, since then it has been learned that some research has been done into the property back in the 70's which shows the property zoned R-3, duplex. Which to the best as they can tell is probably what it is, but not certain because of several changes in zoning ordinance since then. Anyway, the Hilbert's have plans draw for

Voter's Registration
For the convenience of those who cannot register to vote during the week, two special registration days will be held on February 4th and February 18th. A registrar will be at the Huntley Village Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both days to register anyone in the area. Also, if you have moved you must change your address or if you have a name change you must register again.
If you live in an area that has a Primary election you can no longer register for the April 4th election. To Hnd out if you are in a Primary area check with the County Clerk, Township Clerk or your local Precinct Committeeman.
The last day to register for the April 4th election (without a primary) is February 27th.
Candidates
Monday was the last day for candidates to file for the upcoming April 4th elections.
Incumbent James Dhamer and Trustee Art Wicke will both be running for village president. Three trustees will be elected from the following: George Russ, Linda Beris, Joe Gow, Randall Stading, Larry Graff, and Terrence Hoeft. The clerk for the village of Huntley will be appointed rather than elected.
Vernon Brunschon will be on the slate for supervisor of Grafton Township and Don Tessmer for road comissioner. Both are unopposed. Incumbent Richard Enstrom and Betty Pickerel] will vie for the position of township clerk. Bill Ottley is running for assessor along with incumbent Robin Bruncheon. Lebna Nelson, Anthony Wujcik, Donald Rhodes, Dennis Trom, Delwin Borhart, and Daniel Ziller are all seeking positions as trustees.
"lOO's Day   Is Coming"
The countdown is off and running. This bulletin board symbolizes the final countdown before "lOO's Day". On February 3rd, the first grade students of Huntley Grade School will celebrate their lOOth day of this school year. During the
celebration, helium-filled balloons will be launched by all the first graders. Each balloon addressed with individual students' name and address - in hopes that some child in another town or another state will receive his/her balloon and return card attached to the balloon.
