Huntley Gymnasts Win Bears
Park District's Nintendo Contest Winners
Two gymnasts from Huntley won GYMerica's Valentine Bears when they chose to place their cut out hearts on the secret spots in the gymnastics area. Katie Orson (center) and Emily Ruth (right), both attend Huntley Elementary School & are students at GYMerica in Woodstock. Becky Merlo of Crystal Lake (left) and Shawnah Donley of Marengo (not shown) were also winners.
Library Board Meets
The Huntley Area Library District Board met on March 13, 1991, at 7:30pm at the Park District Board Room. The meeting was called to order by the board president, Mr. Ruth. The following members were present: Borhart, Crabill, Kloempken, Kohley, Ruth, Sheets. Guest: M. Pollack. Mrs. Kohley moved, Mrs. Sheets seconded to approve the minutes after corrections were made. Yeas: Kohley, Sheets, Borhart, Crabill, Kloempken. Nays: 0. Motion carried.
Financial report: Mr. Borhart gave the treasurer's report. One bill was presented. Mrs. Kohley moved, Mrs. Sheets seconded to approve the treasurer's report and bill. Yeas: Kohley, Sheets, Borhart, Crabill, Kloempken. Nays: 0. Motion carried. Drendel entered meeting.
Committee reports: Facilities/Equipment: discussed temporary offlce space. Policies/By-laws: Kohley reported that our
agreement with Crystal Lake as our host library waa signed by both boards. Friends of the Library: Kloempken reported that the Friends were planning a summer reading program again and will be represented at the town picnic.
Communications: A letter was shared from Mr. McClarren, our consultant, relinquishing his position. The board members expressed their appreciation for all his efforts, time and expertise.
Old Business: Donation procedures will be tabled until our director is hired.
New Business: Personnel Committee reported that they had met, wrote a job description, screened resumes and set-up interviews. Mrs. Crabill moved, Mrs. Kloempken seconded to change vacation time from 2 to 3 weeks on the employee benefits. Yeas: Crabill, Kloempken, Drendel, Kohley, Sheets. Nays: Borhart. Motion carried. Mrs.
Kohley moved, Mr. Borhart seconded to cover travel expenses up to $.12 per mile for potential candidates. Yeas: Kohley, Borhart, Crabill, Drendel, Kloempken, Nays: 0, Pass: Sheets. Motion carried. Job description for ' our head librarian was presented to the board. Discussion waa held. Ruth moved, Borhart seconded to accept the job description/ goal outline as. ammended. Yeas: Ruth, Borhart, Crabill, Drendel, Kohley, Nays: Kloempken, Sheets. Motion carried. The personnel committee will present the top candidates to the board in April and final interview times will be set.
Mrs. Kohley moved, Borhart seconded to adjourn the meeting. Yeas: 6, Nays: 0. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned, /s/ C.J. Crabill, Secretary

Tracy Frihart, coordinator for Huntley Park District's Nintendo Contest, congratulates the 1st place winner of the Intermediate Division, Brian Smith. 2nd place winner was Candyce Eliason and 3rd place winner was Joe Williams. The contestants won gift certificates to Video Smideo, who co-sponsored the event.

Tracy Frihart congratulates Jeff Smith, winner of the Expert Division of Huntley Park District's Nintendo Contest. 2nd place winner was Bryan Holder and Derek Taylor was the 3rd place winner. All winners received gift certificates to Video Smideo, co-sponsor of the event.
Archaeologists Dig In Garbage

In social studies this year we became archaeologists. Our teacher, Mrs. Leggee, went to different classrooms and took the garbage from waste- baskets. We examined the garbage to figure out where it came from. We answered the following questions as we listed where the garbage came from:
1. What subject was the class working on?
2. What grade did the different garbage come from?
3. What reason did they have for throwing the garbage away?
We also pretended we lived 100 years from now and found a penny on the ground. We examined the penny carefully to see what we could find out about the people of 1991. We found that the people of 1991 had freedom, a leader, a number, a writing and a language system.
It was fun being an archaeologist and pretending.
