Last week a committee-of three, 'composed of G. O. Lewis, Col. J. Black Tanner and L. M. Wood, rep¬ resenting the Flora Commercial-Club and Sheriff H. N. McElyea and coun- «ty Road Supervisor Vlrgll Vandyke, Of Louisville, were in Springfield, interviewing Oov. Small and Col. C. R. Miller, Director Dept. of public Work^ and Buildings, and S. E. Bradt, Superintendent of Highways, regarding hard surfacing of the atate aid road from Louisville to mora The importance of living this seven miles of road hard surfaced this year was laid before the author¬ ities, showini^ how necessary it was to have winter road connections wtth the eounty seat so as to reach there from Flora. Ciay City, Xenia and the southern part ot the county, thus connecting up with the B A O. main line of railway. 'The Justness of tbe plea had weight with those in authority at, Springfield, and assurance was giv¬ en the committee that plana and apecifications for tfae hard surfacing of this strip ot road would be made at once, and that, la all probability, they would be ready to advertise for bids tbe third week of August tbis year. Division Engineer Hathaway, of Effingham, went over the grade a few dajTB ago ofticially endorsed the wotif as being ready for the slab. The people of Louisville, Flora, and other places in Clay county, can assisit the state road commission in gating contractors to bid on this road work for it will be necessary to get the contract let below f 30,000 per mile, or the bids will be rejected. MILDRED HEMMICK WENT TO SAILOR RPBINGt^ FOR OITTINO A most enjoyable outing took place at Sailor Springs, a well-known resort ot ye old days, last Friday when a paity from Flora went there tor the day. The all had the time of their life, eating and boat riding. They enjoyed the eats as a rare treat in tbe way of picnic style. The party consisted of the follow¬ ing: Mrs. John Barker, Mrs. C. L. Harwood, Mrs. J. Bowman, Mrs. C. O. Stanford; the Misses Mary, Martha and Marguerite Bowman, Oladys Barker, Cora Edtth Harwood, Dorothy Anderson Virginia Mann, Pauline McCauliyi Mary Cummins, Leona, Fr ancis, Virginia and Ma^er Chas.. We learn that these men, though governn^nt surveyors are working under the direction of the state high¬ way department with tbe view to tbe early construction of a hard road. This road, we understand. Is to be constructed by/ the state and feder- .al authorities jointly, and is to be a part of the military road over tbe Roosevelt-Midland Trail. The advantages to the people liv¬ ing along .this route cannot be over¬ estimated. Among these are Its probable early construction, the hea¬ vier' and wider track and the Im¬ mense traffic which wtll be carried over it A BAI) ACCIDENT Albert Tolliver, nineteen year old son of John Tolliver living west of Flora, was seriously injuried on Fri¬ day evening by bciug thrown from a horse while riding on West North Ave. He was seen thrown to the pavement and was carried Inlto the home of Bd TIsdale where Mrs. TIs¬ dale rendered aid to the unfortunate young fellow. Mrs. Robert Steen entertained a large party of youngsters In honor of her little sister. Margaret Nelle Songer's sixth birthday. She was as¬ sisted in her duties as hostess by her sister. Miss Evelyn Songer. A number of games had been plan¬ ned for the enjoyment of the child¬ ren. A peanut hunt was pursued with fun and frolic. Favors of gay- Colored crepe paper hats, were giv¬ ea, also "SqtiBWker" balloons. AH day suckers, ice cream in cones and loake were served generously Mar¬ garet Nelle was showered with many dainty and useful gifts In memory of the day. It was a most happy occasion for all.
