A Great Success and Pleasing to All
SCHOOL DAY
One of the largest school parades that has ever been see on the streets of Flora, marched lolheKalr grounds on Sept 10, At 11 o'clock a, m, the City Park was filled with children from different parts of the county. The Klora Public Schools and the Iltgli School lined np to follow those already present In the march to tlie Fair.
County Superintendent G.O, Lewis and Marshall "I'atman, each riding beautiful lior.ses. seemed to be the busiest people on the scene and de¬ serve mucli credit for their eflleient work in forming the line of march.
As the band did not lead the parade one of their men led, with a liag-pipe to farnlsh music. This was a treat for tl.e children, as many of .them never seen anlnstruiiicntof that type. Many comments were made on Hie good liehavlor and ijuietness of the children. Although the heat was In¬ tense they seemed to bear il with great patience. Mr. t>. .\. Towns of Louisville was stationed at the Kair gate, and re¬ ceived the reports of the teachers as they marched into the grounds. Al- thoiigli every school could not receive a prize, all seemed.jto enjoy them¬ selves, and glad they came. This Is one the best ways to advertise Hie schools of Hie county, and from the number present, it sliows to the peo¬ ple, that Clay county Is In the front rank with its sellouts.
The Hve rural schools that had loiift of their enrollment were: (.'enter, Luclle Hodges, teacher; West Semi¬ nary, A. R. Dreppard, teacher: Mc¬ CawIey, Ada Weiler, teacher: Jenkins, KHiel Hutr, teacher: Pleasants Hill, Forest lUirdIck, teacher. As no con¬ testants appeared for the smaller prizes; six dollars were added to the tifteen dollars to be given as Hrst prize, these schools received four dol¬ lars and twenty cents eacli. The second prize of ten dollars to country schools was awarded to the Rusk sc.iool, Miss Rea Snyder, teacher. The third prize of Hve dollars to Lo¬ cust Grove, Russell Burdick, teacher. The fourHi prize of $2,50 to Fair- view, .lames L. McDaniel, teacher. The Hrst prize of twenty dollars to the City school outside of Flora, was awarded to Louisville.
