CUPID SUCCEEDS IN CATCHING TWO COUPLES
Tli« home of Miss Maude Russell was the scene of much merriment Tuesday evenlntr, February 2.3, it tie¬ ing the occasion of tlie tifth annual party given by the Alpha Beta girls in the form of a Colonial dinner. The Iiouse was properly decorated in flags and bunting, thus rendering honor and homage to the father of Ameri¬ can patriotism.
Promptly at seven o'clock the guests began to arrive, each arrayed In the gorgeous costume representing the romantic periods of our national history, known as "colonial days". After all had as.senililed places were found at tlie tables liy the aid of cards in the shape of .small red, wlilte and blue baskets. An elegant three course dinner was served, which con¬ sisting of:

Scalloped chicken peas in patties Maslied potatoes gravy
Hot biscuits olives
Perfection salad Pineapple ice cake
Coffee mints
The appetites having been appeased each guest was bidden to search for small red hatchets wliich had been hidden in every nook and corner of the house. Mrs. Samuel H. Moore was successful in litiding the greatest number of these "deadly weapons'' and was awarded the priz.e.
Another Interesting feature was a chewing gum contest. Partners were found by matching pieces of broken liatchets. Kach guest was given a cake of guui and allotted three min¬ utes in wliich to convert it Into a pliable sulistance to be formed into a liatcliet. Tills afforded much fun, as everyone tried to "chew fastest" and some of the hatchets were declared to resemble tomahawks or meat axes rather than what they were Intended for. Miss .Iessie Taylor and Kred Cunnint'hani weredeclared most skill¬ ful In tills art of .sculpture and car¬ ried off the prize.
Each gentleman present was made to give an exiilbitlon ol' his talent by performing a stunt. Some made po¬ litical speeclies, others sang played or recited poetry. One young man from the county seat was so gifted that he recited In two languages. Dr. Finch presideil at tlie piano with greatest ease and his solo would Indeed have made Padewerisky asliamed of him¬ self, llol'crt Jeffries was real grace¬ ful, too. In fact all were surprised that he was so light on his feet.
The remainder of the evening was spent In an old fashioned spelling match and singing old time songs. All departed at a very late hour, de¬ claring they had enjoyed the best time of their lires and Iioping that time for another such event would soon roll around.

The Rural Letter Carrier Associa¬ tion of Clay County met In the city hall In this city Feb 22 at 1:30 p. m.
The meeting^ was called to order by the President, Curtis Anderson, of Clay City; after which the Sec. Treas., C. F. Pearce of Flora, read the min¬ utes of previous mentlngs held dur¬ ing the year. During the discussion of the report, the point was brought up as to whether the members who paid their membership fee after June Ist., would tie included as paying the 1914 membership fee. it was decided to Include their fees for 191o Instead of 1914. This being annual meeting the following officers were elected:
Bert Tolliver, pres.; L. A. Brlssen¬ den, vice pres.: N. O. Golden, sec. treas.; Rolla Tolliver, sergeant of arms; and Jesse Hundley, member of executive committee. Those present were Curtis Anderson, Jesse Hundley and Charles Pitner of Clay City; Messrs. Bert, Rolla and Pearl Tol- llTer, Ralph Hagle, Hoy Lackey and Postma.ster Murvln of Louisville; F. E. Oheler, of Xenla: L. A. Brlssen¬ den, N. O. Golden, C. F. Pearce and Postmaster Ben Wineland of Flora. The meeting adjourned after decid¬ ing to meet in Clay City in the near future.

On Wedne.sday afternoon occurred the wedding of Miss Abbie liuncli of this city to Mr. Edward Bullard of JohnsonTllle; Rer. Fred Weir officiat¬ ing. They were attended by Miss Esther Bunch and Mr. Fred Bullard, sister and brother of tlie bride and groom.
After the ceremony a six o'clock dinner was served Ui the the Immedi¬ ate family by Mrs. Leon Coil assisted by Miss Madge Marshall. Owing to the recent illness ofthe bride's motli¬ er, the wedding was a ijuiet affair.
