Columbus McDaniel Passes Away
at Rinard Friday Morning

Rinard III. Sept. '2(1.-Columbus Mc¬ Danlel was born May il, 1S41, near Rfnard, Wayne county HI. IHs fath¬ er died while he was a baby and he never knew the joy of a father's love. His half brother, Ell McDanlel, raised him. While young he enlisted In the Civil war in Compuny K. Eleventh Missouri, as the call from Illinois was full.
He wus married to Martha jane Cunningham August 2;t, 1H62. To this union were born two daughters. Rosa E., jvlfe of J. R. Rudolph, and Berthu L., wife of M. G. Karr. HoHi reside at Rlnard.
He was widely known In business circles and noted for his fair dealings and straight forward principles. His life wus un open Ixiok. He united with the M. E. church ut Rinard, 111., while young and wus a faithful christian and one to be counted on at all tiuies to do his part in u clirLstlan line of duly.
He was a tender liusijund, a loving father, u kind grundfatiier and agonal neighbor. He has ulways resided ut or near Rinurd. His de^li occurred al Ills home on Kriday moriWng at 4 (I'ckK'k Sept. 22. liHii, at the age of l.'iyears. 4 months and li> days. He leaves a wife, Martha June McDanlel. two daughters, Rose K. Rudolph and Hertlia L. Karr. two grandsons, C. lioy Rudolph and Dwiglit M. Kurr, one half sister, Siruli E. Hrltton. of Afton, Culif., severul nieces und nepliews and muny friends on every .side.

In¬ terment was mude In the Willow Branch cemetery, A. G. Gaddls. of Klora, funeral director. The pall bearers were the following members of the G. A. R.: Jade I'liillips, Wm. Dauglienbaugii. Warren Towsley, Wm. I'urdy. .lohn Gray aud Dr. Km- inons. Many beuutiful lloral designs were placed on his casket and gruve, as a token of love and esteem of friends.

The ffuture of Hie evening' being an old-fashioned primary sdiool. The ladies were ull dres.sed us little girls. Tlie school wascalled lo order ul I:.!!' by the teacher, .Miss Mary lirown, who was ul;o dressed as a giddy young girl. Some of the children recited and sang songs, others who did not know Ihelr alphabet was taught It at recess. Suckers and striped candy were served, afler which .school closed with an old-fashioned spelling mulch. Tbe remulnder of the evening was spent In playing vurlous other chil¬ dren's gumes. Tw(i prizes were award¬ ed, the lirst to Ada Tibbs, for being Hie cutest dressed little girl; the seoond to y.iWe Thompson. When the hour drew near for little girls to go heme, two young ladles. Misses Daisy Gllley iind Gladys Haker appeared with an abundance of Ice creum^ and cake lo which all did ample justice.
The guests departed at a late hour, declaring they had spent one of the most enjoyable evening since they were little girls.
"Borrowed" John's Horse
Jobn Hrainard, two miles south of FloriTliad bis horse and buggy taken from a hitch rack here Monday night. It Is said that the parly who "bor¬ rowed" the animal drove It over to Xenla and turned it loose. The horse was found later In West Klora.

The Commercial Club mel at the City Hall Kriday night pursuant to a special call. The object ot Hie meeting was to further arrangements us to the establishing of a brancli of the Sexton Manufacturing Compuny in Kiora.
The meeting was called to order by W. A. Scudamore, president of the Klora Commercial (;iub. R. S. Jones acted as secretary in the alisence of Cecil Hrown.
IL K. Pixley read the forms used by Salem In securing a brunch of the Sexton Manufucturing plant In thul dly.
A motion wus mude by W. .\. Kurr and seconded by H. M. Muxey thut u committee, composed of H. C. Cliatiii. H. K. I'ixley and VV. A. Karr heap- pointed to draft a plun of forms for subscriptions siibstanlially tbe .same as Salem's forms for individual sign¬ ers. Motion carried.
