ONE BOOK, MANY FORMATS*
With digital electronic books, the Talking Book Program can expand horizons for
people with visual or physical limitations. In addition to talking and braille books,
resources include online large print, audio books, animated audio books, read-a-long
books and downloadable braille.

More Book Formats
New technologies are expanding access to books and reading materials. To
introduce several of these new technologies to our readers, the Illinois
Network of Talking Book Centers offers the following services:
• Tumblebooks — Includes Tumble Readables for Children (animated
audiobooks); Tumble Large Print Library (collection of large print
electronic books); and Tumble Talking Books (online, 24/7 audio book
library that includes unabridged audio versions of classic American and
world literature.) For more information, visit the Illinois KidsZone Web site

• Playaway — Self-contained digital audio book playback device
manufactured by Playaway. This portable device is the size of a deck of
cards and used with earbuds. A small collection of fiction and non-fiction
titles are available.
• Lobelibrary — Commercial audiobooks available on loan on a small MP3
player called the Otis or Muvo. For more information, visit

The Talking Book Program is a tax-supported, free library service
cosponsored by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically
Handicapped and the Illinois State Library, Talking Book and Braille
Service.
