Overnight Closures of Congress Parkway for Bridge Project
CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the ongoing Congress Parkway
Bridge rehabilitation project will require overnight closures of Congress Parkway and several nearby
expressway ramps and lanes for the remainder of this week, with the reopening of the inbound Dan Ryan
and Kennedy expressway ramps to Congress Parkway anticipated to take place over the weekend.
The closures are required to install new striping, signs, barrier gates and to perform other miscellaneous
bridge work. Extensive delays are anticipated. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes. All dates and
times are weather dependent.
Starting at 11 p.m. tonight, inbound Congress Parkway’s right lane between Canal and Wells
streets will close. One lane will remain open. At midnight, outbound Congress Parkway will fully
close, with traffic detoured south on Wells Street, west on Harrison Street, south on Des Plaines
Street and west on Roosevelt Road to reach the Dan Ryan Expressway (Interstate 90/94) and the
outbound Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290). All lanes reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Wednesday, starting at 11 p.m., inbound Congress Parkway’s right lane between Canal and
Wells streets will close. At 1 a.m., the three left lanes of the inbound Eisenhower will close at
Ashland Avenue, with inbound Congress Parkway fully closed at the Circle Interchange. Traffic
will be detoured south on the Dan Ryan to access the downtown area via the Roosevelt Road exit.
All lanes reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday.
Between midnight and 5 a.m., outbound Congress Parkway will fully close, with traffic detoured
south on Wells Street, west on Harrison Street, south on Des Plaines Street and west on Roosevelt
Road to reach the Dan Ryan and the outbound Eisenhower.
Thursday, starting at midnight, outbound Congress Parkway will fully close, with traffic
detoured south on Wells Street, west on Harrison Street, south on Des Plaines Street and west on
Roosevelt Road to reach the Dan Ryan and the outbound Eisenhower Expressway. Outbound
Congress Parkway will reopen by 5 a.m. Friday.
Also starting at midnight, the three right lanes of the inbound Kennedy Expressway (Interstate
90/94) will close between Chicago Avenue and Jackson Street. The inbound Kennedy ramp to the
outbound Eisenhower will close between 1 and 4 a.m., with traffic detoured south on the Dan
Ryan to Roosevelt Road to access the outbound Eisenhower via the inbound Dan Ryan.
