Important Due Dates!
February 4 is the end date to order commodities for the 2005-2006 school year.
February 16 is the due date for submittal of the Illinois Zero Waste Schools
application (see January 2005 Outlook)
Commodity Orders for School Year 2006
Any schools that have not completed their United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA) commodity order for school year (SY) 2006, need to do so immediately. If
you find the system will not let you order a specific item, it is because that item has been
locked and final orders have been placed with USDA.
Schools that diverted commodity items to processors need to check the Message Board
during the week of February 14. There will be a message stating which processing
companies did not receive a full truck and therefore will not be an approved processor in
Illinois for SY06. Schools that diverted product to a company which is not going to be an
approved processor, need to change their order and divert the product to a company that
will be approved, and zero out the original
order. This new diversion is done exactly
the same as the original diversion. Again, be
sure to zero out the original order to free up
the funds for your new order.
Schools should print a copy of their order
form to verify the order was placed correctly
for 2006. The year is displayed in the header
at the top of the page. Since the previous
year is still live, it would be
possible to
mistakenly place an
order on the
SY05 form
instead of the
SY06 form.
