              Best-selling author and syndicated columnist Bob
Greene will be the featured author at the 2002
Illinois Authors Book Fair weekend, Nov. 15-16, at
the Illinois State Library in Springfield.
Greene is perhaps best known as an
award-winning newspaper
columnist, first for the Chicago Sun-
Times and since 1978 for the
Chicago Tribune. He also is the
author of many award-winning
books, the latest of which is Once
Upon a Town: The Miracle of the
North Platte Canteen. The widely
praised work is about a small town’s
love for World War II soldiers. The
book is on The New York Times
best-sellers list and was highly
recommended by the late Ann
Landers in her column shortly before
her death in June. Greene will be on
hand at the book fair to sign copies
of the book.
Greene’s other books include American Beat, Good
Morning Merry Sunshine: A Father’s Journal of His
Child’s First Year, Be True to Your School and Hang
Time: Days and Dreams With Michael Jordan. His
writings also have appeared in Esquire magazine,
the New York Times, Harper’s, Rolling Stone and
Newsweek.
The book fair weekend kicks off on
Friday night, Nov. 15, with a buffet
reception for participating authors in
the State Library’s first-floor atrium.
Greene will be the keynote speaker.
Proceeds from ticket sales and a
silent auction will benefit the Illinois
Center for the Book, cosponsor of
the book fair.
The Illinois Authors Book Fair runs
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday,
Nov. 16. Patrons may purchase
books and have them signed by
participating authors. The day also
will include panel discussions and
workshops with Illinois authors and a
number of activities for children.
