Authors from many literary
genres, including mystery, romance,
history, politics, science-fiction,
sports, cooking, gardening and
children’s literature, will participate in
the sixth Illinois Authors Book Fair,
Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Illinois State
Library in Springfield.
The Book Fair has grown in
popularity each year, becoming an an-nual
event on the fall calendars of
book lovers throughout Illinois. More
than 3,000 people attended last year’s
event. Because of its popularity, an
hour has been added to this year’s
Book Fair, which is free and open to
the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“The Illinois Authors Book Fair
represents fantastic, free fun for the
entire family,” said Secretary of State
and State Librarian Jesse White. “I look
forward to meeting book lovers from
across the state as we showcase the
incredible talents and gifts of our na-tive
authors and artists.”

named the 2001 Newbery Award
winner — the highest achievement
in children’s literature — for his
book, A Year Down Yonder. Peck
and 58 other Illinois authors will au-tograph
their books and meet with
fairgoers throughout the day.
Workshops — Illinois authors
will present workshops and panel dis-cussions,
including programs on the
James Bond phenomenon, political
writing, World War II and ways to en-courage
children to read.
Antique Book Appraisals —
Spurred by the latest fascination with
antique appraisal fairs on television,
a rare book appraiser will be on hand
at the Book Fair. For a “Buck a Book,”
fairgoers can learn if their old books
in the attic are trash or treasure.
Storytelling — Well-known Jack-sonville
storyteller, musician and au-thor
Mike Anderson will weave stories
for children and adults with a spine-tingling,
pre-Halloween touch!
