INTERVIEW WITH MARIE PAULUS SEPT. 5, 1976 - AT HER HOME - INTERVIEWER A. POTE
Pote - I have a few questions that I want to be sure I get for the newspaper article, so
I'll ask you those first. Then I'd just like to hear you reminisce. What was your
name before you were married?
Paulus - Adams. Marie H. Adams.
Pote - Adams - a good name in American history. Marie H. Adams. And where were you born?
Paulus - Near Osman, 111. 0 S M A N. On a farm.
Po; fce - Would you care to t e l l your birthdate? Most of us know i t anyway, and we're so
proud of you.
Paulus - I was born on May the 2Uth, 1891. That would make me 85, wouldn't it?
Pote - les, 8$ this year. And did you have any brothers and sisters?
Paulus - I « t's see.... There were nine of us. 5> boys and h girls, including me.
Pote - Are any of them still living?
Paulus - No, I'm the only one that's left.
Pote - You were the sturdiest.
Paulus - Yes. I'm the only one that's left.
Pote - After you left Osman, where did you move to?
Paulus - We were in Streator after Osman. My husband worked there.
Pote - 0 you were married then. When did you get married?
Paulus - Let's see. when was that now?
Pote - How old were you, that'll tell.
Paulus - Nineteen.
Pote - Then that would be 1910.
Paulus - Yes, that's right* It was on Dec. 28, 1910, that we were married. I have so
many dates to remember, I almost forgot.
Pote - I forget dates, too. Everybody does...... So you were married in 1910. Did you move
to Streator right away?
Paulus - No we lived near Osman for a while.
Pote - And then to Streator?
Paulus - Yes, and then we moved to Oak Lawn. And then, in 1921*, to Chicago Ridge.
Pote - What induced you and Mr. Paulus to come to this area?
